Pours deep black red with a small film. Taste is an interesting blend. Subdued vinegar notes, dark fruits, plum and slight cane sugar. No bite whatsoever and very pleasant.

Pours dark like a cola. A bit overly sweet, but the smoothness is impressive. No hint of the high abv. Nice Belgian style beer!

On tap at Capone's in Norristown, PA. A very unique brew with a huge punch of various flavors. It may almost have too many different flavors, and almost tastes chaotic. Works for the most part though.

Dark brown pour with an off-white fizzy head. Aroma of plum, cherry, candii sugar, and oak. Dark fruit flavor with wood, honey, and merlot. A bit tart. Improved as it warmed.

Capped 750 from Beachbum25. Many thanks for this. Pours very dark brown with a foamy/fizzy light tan head. The aroma suggests a moderate flemish ale. Hints of sour. Hints of oak. Vinosity. Med + body. Flavor is dark fruit and malt, vinous, oaky, astringent, somewhat earthy/sour. This finishes extremely tasty. Excellent ale.

Thanks, Chris. Nose has mild dark fruits. Flavor is pushed through by excessive carbonation. Mild roast in the background. A bit thin.

Draft at Eulogy. Dark cloudy ruby pour with a foamy tan head. Very little aroma. Tastes like an otherwise standard malty brown ale that has a lot of wine barrel flavors. Slight Brett. The mix is interesting but not good. I have had, and liked, wine barrel aged beers before (Jolly Pumpkin springs to mind) but this one just does not work for me. Feels like a half and half with a table red.

Poured a big head of brown. faded slowly. Big yeasty sweet nose, hint of oak. Taste is obviously a strong ale. Nice resiual sweetness, sticky caramel but overall a weak and thin finish. Lacks complexity and it’s a shame this is a 750..it’s just very large.

750ml bottle pours a translucent brown with some very active, frothy, beige head. Nose of bitter greens, cinnamon, wood pulp, red grape, some light vinegar, a little berry, some brown sugar. Flavor is sweet and tart, soured wine, wood pulp, brown sugar, collar greens, raspberry vinaigrette. Medium bodied, lightly acetic finish.

750 bottle. Pours with a huge gusher to a dark brown pour with off-tan minimal head. I’ve seen 1-2 gishers in 8 years prior to this year, but this is the 3rd bona fide gusher I’ve seen just this year. Nose is candi sugary malt, plum, prune, brown sugar, oaky spirits. Tastes hugely carbonated, on the dry side, like an oaky brown sugary plummy merlot. with some notes of funky yeasty malt. A bit light on the palate, finishes almost like a dark champagne with more figgy fruit and funky malt.

2013.02.23 - Evolution Menagerie #8 - 750ml bottle in goblet glass.
Pours a dark brown to black. Moderate foamy light caramel head of about 1"dissipates pretty quickly, leaving a foamy cap.
Aroma is benign to me. A little bready yeast, a little candy sugar. Perhaps that is the honey but I doubt it.
Mouthfeel is medium. The malts and presumably honey make it a bit creamy. Carbonation seems low.
Taste: Tangy dark ale, a bit of tartness, probably what others are describing as vinous or vinegar. This mixed with mild malty sweetness and presumably tge honey. There seems to be a dryer more sterile sweetness on the back, mixinv with the barrel bite. Not bad. I bought primarily for the honey, but there are other honey beers I like much better. Basically not sweet enough for my expectations of a Belgian style with honey and candy sugar. A big too tart. Not bad though.
Aroma 5/10, Appearance 4/5, Taste 6/10, Palate 3/5, Overall 13/20
