Not a bad beer. Nothing terribly special. Some good citrus hop notes. Mildly sweet. Good middle of the road beer.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a dark golden color with a white head. The nose combines pine, floral, and citrus hops quite nicely. The taste furthers that, with a nice bitterness level and some citrus hops standing out. Good body and nice bitter balance. Drinks well--I’m looking forward to trying their other hoppy beers as well. Slightly cloudy copper coloured body with a thin one-centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bread, yeast, caramel and a touch of hops. Light-bodied; Effervescent, watery flavour at first with some pungent light malt and a touch of hops with no body at all, no depth and nothing really flavourful. Aftertaste is just as mild, showing some malt, water, cardboard and perhaps a touch of light hops - not really though. Overall, a pretty sub-standard beer with not much flavour and absolutely no complexity - especially for the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 27-March-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 05-April-2011.

12oz bottle. Aroma of light malts with a little floral and light citrus notes. Flavor of light caramel, a little floral hops and some grapefruit. Average texture. A pretty good pale ale, but nothing special.

light gold with moderate white head. nose of herbal hops with a touch of oxidation. firm bitterness for the style prior to herbal hop notes with perhaps a touch of munich malt, but very little malt component with a touch of yeast esters. a very dry finish, with the oxidation making it somewhat acrid feel. an aggressive version of the style and not bad

The Primal PA pours gold with a light white head. There is a slight earthiness to the aroma, but mostly citrus and floral. The taste is faintly sweet and the bitterness is middling and a bit sharp in the dry finish.

Bottle. Pours straw with slight haze and thin white head. Medium carbonation. A fairly delicate nose for a pale ale - some citrusy and grassy hops. Seems to be the classic Cascade nose. The hops are well balaced by a caramelly sweet malt. Crisp, dry finish. Overall a simple pale ale. Decent, but not remarkable.

Dark gold pour with a bigass fluffy-rocky head. Pretty sharp, tangy aroma with yeast and lemon notes. Primal is a nice, yeasty pale ale, with some mineral flavors, pretty rustic vibe. A good brew.

12oz bottle, courtesy of beachbum25. Thanks, Jim! Pours a pale, tarnished bronze color; fine-bubbled off-white head with light retention and lacing. A basic, nondescript mineral and citrus hop aroma here (crisp and dry overall), with a modest sweet maltiness and just a whisper of (seemingly) DMS that doesn’t hurt much; basic, crisp, not unpleasant. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Modest citrus and mineral hop bitterness upfront (neither resiny nor astringent: simple), followed by a sweet, almost corny maltiness (the hint of DMS adds to this I’m sure); a crystalline-sugar feel overall, suggesting a decent dose of crystal malt, and there’s a slight amount of huskiness and coarseness at the edges; still, a decent and enjoyable pale ale rendition. Medium finish, showing a toasty maltiness and a lingering minerally hop bitterness; dry ending.
