COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jacques Au Lantern, our Belgian-inspired pumpkin ale, is now on at the taproom. 6.1% abv, unfiltered and a whirlwind of spicy flavors and aromatics. It would take me a while to describe this one, it’s probably easier for all of us if you just stop by and try it.

Bottle. Nose is sweet and malty, earthy, vanilla and spice, strong but seemingly not overdone. Pours orange with a fizzy, ephemeral beige head. Taste is very sweet, thin body, light-medium bitterness, more of the latter from the now much heavier spices than from any hop contribution. There is some pumpkin character here. Crisp, light booze, too much nutmeg/allspice/etc, barely passes muster, but I finished.

Sample at Kurtkeller 017: Pumpkin-tastic 02 on 10/13/2014. Hazy orange color with a thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Spice, yeast and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of peppery yeast, caramel malt and pumpkin spices. The finish is sweet with a nutmeg and cinnamon aftertaste. Decent overall.

12 oz. bottle poured. Aroma is all pumpkin, with just a tinge of nutmeg to round it out. Feels smooth with just a bit of the lightest carbonation. Let this one warm up a bit before drinking it, might make it better for you.

Strong pumpkin pie spice, medium carb, deep orange. Has some hop bitter. Or spice bitter. Slight creaminess.

Bottled. Heavier on the cinnamon, nutmeg and got s9me brown sugary malts. Pretty good.

Draft sample at their tasting room yesterday, orangy dark amber color with light tan head. Aroma of pumpkin, spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), toast and Belgian yeast notes (some fruitiness, clove). Taste adds notes of caramel, allspice and citrus. Medium-light body, moderate carbonation, dry with faint fruity roast finish. Fruitier pumpkin ale, quite nice.

A brown Belgian ale without the pumpkin but everything else. Pours an orangey brown color, generous off white to tan colored head, splotchy lacing. Aroma of molasses, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice. Flavor followed, Belgian yeasties underneath, bread, assorted other spices. Mouthfeel moderate in body and carbonation. Nice stuff.

I appreciate the Belgian twist on the pumpkin beer, but it’s still overly spiced, thin, astringent, and overall just meh. Nutmeg and cinnamon with some Belgian yeastiness.

Pours cloudy copper color with off white head. Toasted malt aroma with cinnamon and nutmeg. Sweet caramel and toasted malt start followed with brown sugar and Biscoff cookie. Cinnamon nutmeg and ginger spiciness with light pine finish. Creamy mouthfeel.

On tap half pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD. Clear, coppery amber with a small khaki head and fair lacing. Aroma of pumpkin fruit, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel and wassail. Taste of nutmeg, toasted malt, caramel, cinnamon, allspice, pumpkin and orange. Nicely rounded balance of fruity, malty and spice flavors. Medium body and medium carbonation with smooth, foamy mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
