Sample pour at the brewery, nice roasty porter, a little thin but nice and drinkable.

Dark color, translucent, and a bit reddish. Aroma is very good, sweet cuban coffee and caramel. Flaovr is a very roasty espresso like burnt character. Lots of ash and bitterness in the flavor. Light though, palate is cool and witha bitter aftertaste.

No bottling information.
Appearance: The body is a deep chestnut, appearing an opaque black in the glass. The head is short, thin and short lived. The head settles into a very thin ring with almost nothing on the surface.
Aroma: The aroma is a mix of sweet cocoa, hints of roast, fig, and smoke. The aroma has good strength, but I donít enjoy the blend.
Taste: The flavor is of dried figs throughout, very prominent with a touch of roast towards the end with a lightly smoked finish thatís semi-dry with a lingering fig.
Palate: The body is a bit watery in feel, carbonation is light to moderate.
Overall: This porter isnít really doing it for me. Too much fruit for my liking and too watery of a body.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Smoke aromas with dark roasted malt. Medium carbonation. Very nice.

Bottled...not much head, a bit too carbonated for me, but that aside it has a good smoky taste.

Sweeter than I'd prefer a porter to be. Notes of vanilla. A better dessert beer than session porter, not that there's anything wrong with that. Malts are very powerful, which wouldn't be bad but the hops aren't there to balance it out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

$1.75 for a bottle at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours.... head, head, head... settles for a long time. Another pour: head head head. OK somethingís up. Smells sour. Taste is sour... undrinkable. This bottle may be bad... looks like Iím not the only one with this problem with this beer.

Evolution lucky 7 Nice roasted flavors. Aroma was very enticing and the flavors represented well. Lighter body than a stout but right in line with what I would want with a porter. Very drinkable with good lasting tasty malt flavors. Well crafted.

Nice roasted aroma, with coffee notes. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown, with red highlights when held up to the light and with a small tan head. Good roasted flavor, with more chocolate coming through, thin and easy drinking. A nice solid porter.

Reviewed 2/18/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a very dark burnt sienna color. Itís not completely opaque at all, like many porters tend to be. The head is a one finger offwhite shade that fades into a thin film with some collaring around the edge of the glass. S: A fairly chocolaty porter; itís more dry than milky sweet, though. Some nuts, dark unroasted malts, and hazelnut coffee tie these qualities together. Not particularly grabbing or expressive, but good. T: Even drier than the nose suggested. There are some roasted nuts to start, some lactose cream flavors in the midtaste, and a finish of coffee with just a hint of dry chocolate. I also notice a twinge of finishing hops; not just in the light bitterness, but with the mildly acidic and mineral-esque kick in the aftertaste, as well. M: Light bodied, with good carbonation, and a crisp, dry finishing kick. About what I expect from a porter. O: For better or worse, itís a standard porter. Granted, itís a standard porter thatís executed quite well; however this lacks many qualities that would enable it to stand out from its brethren. Itís one to consider purchasing, but perhaps not one to seek out.
