Bottled...not much head, a bit too carbonated for me, but that aside it has a good smoky taste.

Sweeter than I'd prefer a porter to be. Notes of vanilla. A better dessert beer than session porter, not that there's anything wrong with that. Malts are very powerful, which wouldn't be bad but the hops aren't there to balance it out.

$1.75 for a bottle at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours.... head, head, head... settles for a long time. Another pour: head head head. OK somethingís up. Smells sour. Taste is sour... undrinkable. This bottle may be bad... looks like Iím not the only one with this problem with this beer.

Nice roasted flavors. Aroma was very enticing and the flavors represented well. Lighter body than a stout but right in line with what I would want with a porter. Very drinkable with good lasting tasty malt flavors. Well crafted.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice roasted aroma, with coffee notes. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown, with red highlights when held up to the light and with a small tan head. Good roasted flavor, with more chocolate coming through, thin and easy drinking. A nice solid porter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reviewed 2/18/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass.
A: Pours a very dark burnt sienna color. Itís not completely opaque at all, like many porters tend to be. The head is a one finger offwhite shade that fades into a thin film with some collaring around the edge of the glass.
S: A fairly chocolaty porter; itís more dry than milky sweet, though. Some nuts, dark unroasted malts, and hazelnut coffee tie these qualities together. Not particularly grabbing or expressive, but good.
T: Even drier than the nose suggested. There are some roasted nuts to start, some lactose cream flavors in the midtaste, and a finish of coffee with just a hint of dry chocolate. I also notice a twinge of finishing hops; not just in the light bitterness, but with the mildly acidic and mineral-esque kick in the aftertaste, as well.
M: Light bodied, with good carbonation, and a crisp, dry finishing kick. About what I expect from a porter.
O: For better or worse, itís a standard porter. Granted, itís a standard porter thatís executed quite well; however this lacks many qualities that would enable it to stand out from its brethren. Itís one to consider purchasing, but perhaps not one to seek out.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of chocolate combined with roast malts and maybe a hint of hops. Taste sweet and smokey, chocolate, coffee mild floral hoppiness, that is very well balanced and gives this porter a nice character. Enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Mariís. Pours black with some red around the edges. There is a huge tan head on top that sticks around. Mild carbonation in the glass. The aroma is ultra roasty with some lightbitter chocolate present. Very limited complexity. The taste has a nice chocolate kick with some extra sweetness, almost a mocha flavor on the finish. There is a huge carbonation kick on this that nearly stings the tongue.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle This was a gift from a friend while at Snowshoe. The porter poured a deep black with mahogany edges. The tan head stayed with the beer with lacing that was limited. This is a joy to drink with the nutty nose and some dark chocolate notes. There is a hint of licorice and some smokiness. The carbonation was soft but suited the porter. The finish was well balanced and pleasant.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Bottle via trade - thanks Chris! Very dark pour with a monster carbonated head. This one tastes quite sour - kind of drowns out the chocolate and roasted coffee that Iím sure is supposed to be front and center with this beer. Possibly infected?
