Pours a dark opaque brown with a small brown head. A bit of coffee and smokiness in the aroma. Light bodied for a porter, and balanced, with a slightly bitter finish from burnt malts not hops. Finishes refreshing for a porter. Carbonation is medium.

Pours a mostly opaque black with dark mahogany edges and a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a lightly sweet and nutty nose with some dark caramel and chocolate notes with a touch of smoke. Starts with pretty good fullness for the style with a chewy toasted dark caramel malty sweetness and nice dark chocolate flavor with some light peaty smokiness that lingers in the drier finish. A well-balanced, flavorful and drinkable porter.

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA, opened 1/10/10. Pours a dark ruby color with a medium tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of tart malty notes along with some roast and chocolate. The taste is chocolate, roast, berries, bitter hop finish. Medium bodied. Not bad, but the tartness does seem like its not supposed to be there.

12oz bottle, courtesy of beachbum25. Thanks, Jim! Pours a medium brown color, reasonably clear; thin, fine-bubbled, medium-brown head with light retention and lacing. Plenty of leather, smoke, and ashiness in the aroma: Iíd be hugely surprised if they didnít use smoked malt in this recipe; a touch acrid smokiness overall. Medium mouthfeel; medium carbonation. Medium levels of smoked malt (again, a touch ashy and charred here), along with basic notes of caramel and roast at the core; a very basic porter with some light cola notes present as well. I dig the idea of a subtle smoked malt addition in porters, but I canít imagine that most people find it a happy surprise... Medium finish of caramel, light roast, and a pervasive ashy / acrid smoke note at the very far end of things.

Big foamy head. The fairly acrid, yeasty aroma is a problematic, but the flavor compensates for it. It tastes strong and malty - a solid, rich porter. Lucky 7 leaves a nice citrus tingle on the palate. I would get this again.

Poured a clear, dark mahogany brown with a tall foamy light brown head. There were nice red highlights showing in the glass as light passed through. The head left a nice amount of lacing as the head reduced slowly to just a 1/4 inch or so. The aroma was very nice with scents of milk chocolate and caramel malt. There was a nice flavor of anise initially followed by espresso and dark chocolate along with their accompaning bitterness. It was slightly dry with a good finish with flavors of anise and dark chocolate. There was a nice bitterness that faded away gradually. This was a very good porter.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with a cream light tan head. Aroma is sweet cocoa, roasty malt, mostly sweet with some coffee notes, even a bit of smokiness and woody. Flavor starts sweet and chocolatey, some cocoa powder and some bitter chocolate and burnt toast. Picks up some definite smoke notes, very nice light smokey character. Medium body and a softish carbonation. I donít know what everyone is talking about, the body is great for a standard porter, this is a robust porter, drinkable but still some body. I love t he smoke, Really quaffable, with some subtle but balanced roast, chocolate and smoke.

Well, it poured out really pretty, dark and clear with great head retention. But then I took a sip. The extremely thin mouthfeel barely carried the chocolate malt I expect of this style. I wouldnít go straight to watery, but I wonít be buying it again until the brewer better understands the style. This was disappointing, sad to say.

Bottle->English pint: Pours a large, creamy, brown head atop a opaque, black body. Aroma of sweet malt and grains. Flavorís duration is short, finishing quickly with just a hint of bitterness. There is a pleasant sweetness that coats the mouth prior to the finish. All-in-all, an accessible and drinkable beer.
