3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Received in trade from mdaschaf, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a solid dark brown bordering on black with a good sized off white head that displays moderate retention and lace. Smells of light chocolate and brown sugar mostly. Has hints of earth and a slight mineral edge to it. Taste is mostly caramel and brown sugar with only a tease of chocolate in it. There’s a hint of oxidation mixed in here with a hint of tart fruitiness and bits of earth and mineral water. Beautiful creamy silky smooth mouthfeel, moderate level of carbonation with a medium body. Decent porter but nothing earth shattering here. Oxidation and tartness seem quite out of place here.

12 ounce thanks to Elwood. Slightly thin porter with big carbonation. Some chocolate and roast. Not much smoke, and that is good.

Thanks to anggrec for this one. Very nice porter. Loaded with coffee in the aroma along with some chocolate. Nice malty start, slightly sweet with a good balance of hops.

Black with a thin tan head. Weak smoky chocolate nose. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, although a little thin at the same time. Solid smoky taste, mixed with a semi-sweet malty flavor that mixes with and fades to the slightest bitter hop ending.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle via trade. Darkest brown in color with reddish hues and a lasting 1.5-finger tan head with good lacing. Very roasty aroma with some anise going on and some bitter espresso notes. The flavor is rather intense for the style and ABV, almost bordering on harsh. Huge roasty ashiness, bitter cocoa, burnt coffee beans, and dark fruits. It’s actually pretty good despite almost overwhelming the palate. Slick mouthfeel and even a bit tannic with medium-plus body and average carbonation. A pretty good porter, and avoided being the 4th drainpour out of 4 beers I’ve had tonight.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a dark brown with thick tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is very nice with hints of chocolate. The taste comes across as too malty. The blend doesn’t seem to mix (not well balanced). It just seems like it’s missing something. Not terrible but too bland for my taste.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
THOUGHTS: Sort of middle of the road for a porter, but it was tasty and was very easy to drink. Fairly complex in the malt department, but needed a little more hop balance. It tasted better than it smelled.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a very dark red that basically looked black in the glass with a large, tan head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel, milk chocolate, coffee, milk and sour coffee; a little dar and sour fruit; hints of licorice and cola; and ever so slight hints of soured milk and vinegar. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly sour; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly bitter, light to moderately sour and lightly acidic with a sort of short finish. There was coffee, caramel, sour coffee, a little cola, slight licorice, bakers chocolate, hot cocoa mix, dark and sour fruit, black cherry, very dark chocolate and tobacco. The medium body was oily with tingly carbonation and a slightly astringent finish.

Not too bad, got this from a friend when she was in Delmar. She was not a porter fan but really enjoyed this one in particular. I can see why, the taste and nose are awesome, all the coffee and smokiness that you would expect with a porter. The palate i felt was lacking, i wanted more. Overall very enjoyable, but not caseworthy

Bottled. Poured clear, deep brown with garnet highlights and a short beige head. The aroma picked up ashy black patent roast, smoked malts, and baker’s chocolate.. light vanilla and earthy accents.. not greatly exciting, but not bad. The flavor found mostly chocolate and smoked malts, with lots of ashy roast and earthy bitterness around.. just a tad peppery on the finish. Medium-bodied and very dry on the palate.. lots of roast.. good feel and flow.
