Lengthy palate for such a light tasting beer. Lots of boozy alcohol, and I can’t say the rum is special in this context or a particularly beer-friendly spirit. It’s raisiny, plummy, and overpowering. Still, the beer is meant to showcase this technique, and it is successful at showing what golden ale in rum barrels should aspire to be.

Lots of malt and some boozy perfume like yeast hear. Pours cloudy golden without much head or lacing. Finishes sweet and lightly bitter. Cones together pretty well. Tap at Max’s.

2012 bottle pour..solid pop from cap...light amber caramel color..slight 1/2 finger creamy head rests atop..plenty of carbonation here..nose is interesting with booze, wood, vanilla, and what seems like rum soaked butterscotch..mouthfeel is medium bodied to start with no real alcohol heat at first..taste is smooth and complex and the rum is nicely done here..the alcohol legs return with a warming lingering presence..an enjoyable sipper and another solid barrel offering from EVO..has qualities of various styles in play here..

2013 bottle from Capones. Pale copper with a faint head that fades to nothing. Sweet caramel, rum, mild oak, vanilla, booze, mild carbonation and moderate body, some green apple on the finish with some yeast, more booze and lots of brown sugar, caramel and some toffee.

Bottle - 750mL crowned. Courtesy of my friend Noel. Spring 2012 vintage. Bottle 679 of 1200. Hazy amber with a short white head. Aroma is fruity and sweet with yeast, light boozy notes and bread dough. Taste is sourdough bread, rum notes, fruit notes, sweet malt, soft wood notes, light vanilla and hints of banana. Body is medium with a soft creamy carbonation. Ends with more fruit notes, sweet malt, booze, rum notes, bread, light wood notes and hints of vanilla.

A Malt liquor variety strong ale, with some coconut from the wood ageing. Someone sweetish, in a word alright. Not complex.

Pours mostly clear copper with no head. Aroma brings raw yeast almost like dough with some malty perfume notes at the end. The flavor brings some malty fruits, creamy toffee really smooth on the tongue from the rum.

750ml bottle (2013, # 254 of 1500), shared by dave! Pours an unattractive dirty amber color with no head. Aroma of rum, sweet apple, caramel, and slight funk. Taste is also of sweet apple, caramel malt, cheap rum, and oak. Kinda on the flat side. Not a huge fan, but thanks for sharing dmac!

750ml bottle from Capones. Poured an ugly mud brown with a very small spotty beige head. Aroma of apples, wet wood, wet grains, plastic, bad raisin and uncooked dough. Medium body with softer carbonation and a lingering aftertaste with a touch of light heat. Flavor is similar to the aroma with lots of wet wood, some apple skins, dough, bad raisins, touch nut shell. Meh, not worth the $18 price tag even knowing it came from a bottle shop that added a few dollars on to the overall price.
