4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Skyview (5023) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JUL 24, 2012On draught at the brewery taproom in Excelsior, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear golden amber colored ale with a thick off-white head that has some excellent retention and leaves behind lots of lacing. Aroma of both fruity and citrus hops, a hint of caramel and a touch of pear. taste is medium to full bodied, lots of character depending on the temperature. At cold flavors tends to be citrusy and crisp with flavors of mostly hops and a hint of caramel. Bring up to room temperature and you may detect some tropical and floral hops followed by a short lived bitterness. Finish is semi-sweet, a sharp bitterness then some fruity notes aftertaste. Typical character of Glacier and Magnum hops and XLCR Pale Ale has that. A borderline ale profile somewhere between an American Pale Ale and American West Coast IPA. Could see this as a flagship product for Excelsior.

Citrus nose. Pretty balanced brew. Kinda muted in a sense. Ok to put back a couple but nothing crazy.

On tap at the brewery. Pours orange with a little head. Aroma and taste are nice floral and citrus hops. Definitely a tasty brew.

I love this beer. I want my first child to come from the womb directly into a cat of XLCR.

Growler. Pours clear gold color with a soapy head that fades. Aroma of malt and caramel with a subtle pepper spice. Taste has spicy hops and then the malt caramel shows up. Palate is fizzy and dry. Rather safe and boring.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nuffield (3348) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 31, 2012
Golden, clear pale ale. A touch of fruitiness to the nose, then a caramelly malt front with a turn to the hop dimensions later, though with continuing malt backbone and some grassy notes that stay shy of vegetal. Decent drinking, but a better nose than flavor. (on tap at Ball Park Cafe, Minnesota State Fair)

Tap at the taproom. Clear light orange pour with a foamy white head. Very nice floral hop profile with a touch of sweet malt. Good drinker.

Drank at the brewery. Gold, slightly hazy. A liberally hopped pale ale. Good body backs it up. Going off memory here but I really liked this one. Of the three offerings this was my favorite.

Draft, at the disastrous Minnesota Food Truck Festival. Gold color. Dry malt and herbal hops in both the aroma and the flavor. More hops in the aroma however, and a dry, herbal finish with malt.

Had this at the All Pints North festival in Duluth, MN. Has a nice citrus/orange scent. Taste was sweet and a really light bitterness.
