Attention serious beer drinkers: XLCR is here. Go ahead, dive right into our amber colored pale ale. It features a pleasant floral hop aroma and a satisfying malt sweetness. It’s dark enough to pair with steak fresh off the grill, but refreshing enough to cool off on a Minnesota August afternoon.

On draught at the brewery taproom in Excelsior, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear golden amber colored ale with a thick off-white head that has some excellent retention and leaves behind lots of lacing. Aroma of both fruity and citrus hops, a hint of caramel and a touch of pear. taste is medium to full bodied, lots of character depending on the temperature. At cold flavors tends to be citrusy and crisp with flavors of mostly hops and a hint of caramel. Bring up to room temperature and you may detect some tropical and floral hops followed by a short lived bitterness. Finish is semi-sweet, a sharp bitterness then some fruity notes aftertaste. Typical character of Glacier and Magnum hops and XLCR Pale Ale has that. A borderline ale profile somewhere between an American Pale Ale and American West Coast IPA. Could see this as a flagship product for Excelsior.

12 oz bottle. (Super One Liquor) Baxter, MN.
Slightly cloudy deep golden color with a small white head. Fruity hops, mild bitterness, dryness and caramel malt in the aroma. Floral hops, mild bitterness, floury maltiness and caramel sweetness in the flavor. Pretty alright.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear light gold body with a small fizzy white head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is lightly citrusy and fruity hops with a minimal malt impact. The flavor is pretty bland, very minimal hop flavor and bitterness levels. Light, slightly bready pale malt base, a slight graininess on the finish. Light bodied and thin with fizzy carbonation. Pretty bland and boring stuff.

Pours the way you want your APA. Smells great, with a smooth hop grassy oral experience. Balanced sweetness and bitterness deliver a well rounded effort here.

Easy drinking pale ale with slight hop bitterness. Gets a little grainy as it warms. I can see this as a decent bar beer with some food. Drink um cold.

Copper color with a small head. Very light piney hop aroma. Strong grainy flavor. Rough bitterness. Fairly full bodied. Some heavier Noble vegetal hop flavor as it warms.

Pours a clear, dark copper, with almost no head. Some floral notes in the aroma a flavor, but the malt and grain both are much more pronounced. I have to say this was kind of underwhelming.

Clean, fleeting taste. President of Excelsior Brewing talked about their goal of approachable beers. This brew fulfills their philosophy, and could appeal well as an all-purpose ale accessible by all levels of beer fans. Muted and safe, but I think that was the point.
