Dull mashy aroma, a touch almondy. Dry woody bitterness, woody. Old and stale. 5 months before BBE, so the blame seems to be with the brewer.

First tasted this at the Boswell Hotel, Glasgow in October 1992. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear russet in colour with a thin white head. Faint note of caramel in the short aroma. Smooth mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a slight digestive biscuit base with sweet caramel and raisin fruit. Slight bitter note in the short aftertaste. Finish has a sweet toffee note. An ok session bitter.

Clear medium amber colour with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, toffee. Flavour is moderate sweet with a average to long duration, thin. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110803]

Bottled. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, wood, caramel and some mild notes of toffee. Flavour is fruity, earthy, mildly floral notes as well. Finishes bitter and a bit nutty.

Cask conditioned at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Amber with slight head. Quite a fruity, flowery malty beer, with an orange flower character. Reasonably sharp with a touch of tannin. Short on the finish.

Cask-conditioned at George’s Meeting House (JDW), Exeter 25/07/09. Amber coloured with a moderate, off-white head. fruity mlat aroma with some grassy hops. Flavour of doughy malts, red fruit and a hint of spice, before a sweetish finish. Ok.

Cask. Gravity. Clear copper with a short head. Slight citrus scent. In the mouth it is mainly bland. Some hops with toffee notes on the end, then no aftertaste. Malty but unexciting with a dry end.
