3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ALLOVATE (1719) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - OCT 8, 2011
Cask, handpump @ The Powder Monkey JDW, Exmouth, Devon. Produced a yellow gold with a few floaties caught in suspension. Head is short lived, an island of white in the centre keeps for the length. Aroma of rose petals, straw, dusty grains, lemon-grass and lemon candy adding a sweet touch. Similar in the mouth, sourish tinge towards the back with bright floral hops and citric esters. Base of pale grains, straw and dried grass. Very light bodied, almost delicate in mouthfeel. Low bitterness, ends short with just a little residual sweetness of candied lemon to play on the palate. Quite a good thirst quencher, can’t find to much to whinge about at all. A nice Summer refresher.

I agree with the fellow who said it’s more than the sum of its parts. Very light in colour and a slightly sweet taste. Seemed to get nicer the further I got through the pint.

A light pale golden ale. Not much aroma and a little too bland. This beer needs a bit of life. Not unplesant but just too boring.
