Half pint from cask at The Green Man in Dorset. Pours amber with a white head. Aroma of malt, caramel and light hops. Same aspects in flavour with some fruit and bread, light sweet and moderate bitter. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. (offline rating from April 2012)

Tight lasting head with a gentle aroma of freshly mown hay. Flavour represents a fine balance between malt and hops and the finish is reasonably long and malty, very refreshing on a warm summer’s day. You will need to choose your pub carefully for such a delicate ale and not therefore one to rate as your 11th half at the Invercockaleekie beer festival... but under the right conditions, one of the best.

First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in May 1986. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thick creamy white head. Slight redcurrant fruit in the short sweet aroma. Thin but refreshing mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts deliver a robust fiery digestive biscuit base with toffee and barley sugar flavours. Slight prickle of hop resins detected in the brief aftertaste. Finish is well and truly malty with fruit undertones of dry currants. Slight tang of hard water salts creeps in as well. A decent quaffing ale and well recommended.

Cask at Prince Regent, Herne Hill, London SE24 on 1st June 2011. Clear copper with thick creamy white head of foam. Berry fruit aroma, then sweet caramel malt and some citric hop in background. Pleasant textured mouthfeel, and quite a sweet aftertaste. Very well kept by pub, beer by no means a favourite but I ended up enjoying it rather more than envisaged.

Cask conditioned handpump Great Eastern Brighton. A brown beer with a lasting white head and lacing. An ordinary earthy english bitter with leafy hops. Fruity notes. Overwarmth might stifle some flavours but it does seem pretty ordinary.
