Bottle from Premier Hele Bay Garage, Ilfracome. Clear copper-brown with a frothy head. Sweet in both aroma and taste, with a mild spiciness among more dominant dark malts. It’s a fairly smooth tasting strong ale.

Bottled. A very dark red-brown (but not as dark as a stout.) Has a good sized head of fine, light brown foam. Aromas of toffee, burnt caramel, and malt, with some freshness to balance and some spice (clove?) A sweet start in the mouth and then a drier, spicy finish. Good body and warmth; well balanced. Excellent.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks grumbo for the trade. Clear dark brown with a beige head. Nutty aroma, slightly roasty and hints of prune. Sweet, ripe dark fruit and a little alcoholic in the mouth. Medium-to-full body, prune, date and roasty finish.

12 oz. bottle from Grocery Outlet. It pours a medium/dark brown color with an off white head. The aroma is massive caramel, toffee, oxidation, light cocoa and hints of treacle. The flavor is pretty much the same. A little nutty, molasses, lots of caramel, little bit of toast near the finish. Tastes a bit old, but I guess that’s to be expected when you buy beer at Grocery Outlet. Not something I’d look forward to drinking again, but seems like it might be good to cook with.

I bought this in a gas station in Barnstaple England. I was clearly lured in by the awesome label, and it turned out that’s not all that was good. It tasted of ferment fruits and chocolate, mainly banana. A lot of caramel taste too. Not a whole lot of bitterness, but a nice aftertaste.

Bottle, 500ml. A deep brown colour with a small brown head. Aroma of grassy hops and lemon. Some roasted malt notes are apparent once it warms up. Flavour is roasted biscuity malt with some fruity hop and caramel notes. A sweet citrus finish with lingering biscuit notes. Low carbonation, smooth on the palate. This is an unexpectedly complex and enjoyable brew.
