bottle. Dark colour, nearly black, large head. Flavours of coffeeand bitter chocolate combined with fruity and citrusy hops, which makes an excellent comination. Dry finish.

Bottled, 500ml, aged 4yrs. Dark brown with thin tan head. I think the ageing has done this no favours. The beer is a little sluggish with little life. There is still a vinous character with a slightly sour taste of plums and roasted malt. Thick but short finish, drink this fresh.

Fin (6180) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 19, 2006
Bottle, Co-op, Axminster, Devon, 11-11-06 (different label to that shown) Poured very dark brown, instantly came across as a good strong beer, nice aroma of roasted malts and with some bitter chocolate. taste strong, but suprisingly smooth, roasted notes, even liqourice tasted in this good bottled beer.

StueyD (812) - Heacham, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAR 13, 2006
A deep dark, rich chocolate brown ale with a frothy creamy white head. A strong malty aroma with a treacle bitter sweetness. The flavour is of the same smooth bitter sweetness, with toasted malt tones. the finish is slightly zesty, with a liquorice sweetness. (Bottle - Tesco)

Poured from the bottle, a dark brown with a large rocky head. A caramal malt aroma. Caramal/coffee malt prominent in the flvaour and very smooth on the palate.

Bottle. Opaque dark brown with a slim tan head. Aroma has roasted malts, chocolate, nuts, butter - make that peanuts. Taste is chocolate, dark malts, coffee. Very nice, long bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Very drinkable. Damned fine stuff.

leaparsons (7069) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2005
Bottle. Black with no head. Aromas are earthy sweet roast coffee with licourice, alcohol and, oddly, seaweed. Flavours are roast malts with plain chocolate bitterness. Quite sweet, reminded me of coca cola. Some saltiness, too. Very nice.

rauchbier (3394) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2002
Bottled. Deep red-brown, almost black with a good initial head that soon subsides and moderate condition. Fruity woodiness in the nose, quite complex body with hints of grain, chocolate, licorice and a faint smokey note. Finish starts sweet but becomes roasted and earthy.
