COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Previously a Winter seasonal.
Brewed with a mix of pale ale, chocolate and crystal malts, and hopped with Goldings, Challenger and Brewers Gold, it is dark mahogany-brown in colour, with the merest hint of crimson tints at its edge. Lush rich aromas of toffee, treacle. Mocha coffee, vinous fruit and chocolate swirl above the glass. There’s more complexity on the palate with rich fruitcake, a hint of rum, more Mocha coffee, an herbal hoppiness, vinous fruit, while the bittersweet finish is smooth yet complex, rich but not cloying.
NOTE: Original recipe used Fuggles hops instead of Brewers Gold.

Gravity at Newtfest 2016. Mahogany with a thin cream head. Mild chocolate aroma. The taste is toffee, chocolate, herbal and spicy. Some booze comes through. Decent.

Dark ruby. Aroma soft malty with coffee. Taste an unusual porter. Liquorice coffee and chocolate. Smooth and great strength. Subtle on palate but pleasant and very moreish.

Cask @ Cricketers Arms, Eastleigh. Clear amber body with a thin off-white film of foam. Quite mild aroma of caramel malt and dry fruit. Flavor is soft, smooth caramel malt, light roast, dry fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and aftertaste. Smooth and soft but not very exciting and quite light roasted for a porter, still quite nice in a subtle way.

Cask at The Railway, Putney. As ’Exmoor Beast’, 6.6%, with Beast of Exmoor themed pumpclip. Very dark brown, orange hue, small bubbly brown head, droopy lacing. Aroma is light, airy, bread. Body is medium, soft carbonation, smooth. Taste is bready, tangy, currants, dense breads, peppery, touch of smoke, resinous hops. Not a standard porter by any means. Would easily pass for an ESB. It’s alright.

Cask. Dark chestnut brown with a small beige head. Over ripe banana, dark roast, white chocolate, syrup. Sweet and a bit sticky, could do with a bit more bitterness to balance it. Alcohol doesn’t show much, tingles a bit on the gums. Ok as a warming brew in small amounts.
