A great porter, very smooth,a deceiver,I won’t be going up on the moors tonight. haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England Feb 1, 2005 Cask (gravity) at Burton Winter Ales Festival 2005. A porter with muscle. Dark brown, roasty whiff, sweet finish with crystalline fruits anf buttered nuts, deceptive palate for a stronger ale, probably beer of the festival for me. johninmelb (688), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Dec 23, 2004 Too sweet, too cloying, and generally overdone. A beer that doesn’t know what it wants to be. Nasty. maeib (4683), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Nov 29, 2004 Cask conditioned - handpump - White Horse - Parsons Green London SW6. A very dark brown beer with a short-lived tan coloured head. A bit of roast and smoke in the aroma. The taste has caramel, licquorice and an oily texture. Very drinkable. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England Nov 28, 2004 Hand pulled at the White Horse, Parsons Green, London (as part of their Old Ale festival), with Joeh and Maeib. Dark brown, no head and a Porter style smell (this as written not knowing the style of the beer!) Very smooth and clean. Nice, sweet roast flavour, very slight increased sweetness on the finish. Nice enough strong ale - better than the Moonrakers. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Nov 27, 2004 Cask conditioned at the White Horse, Parsons Green, London. Roasty beer with malt and coffee/chcocolate notes, slightly sweet but more than anything Roasty. RichardWilding (190), London, Greater London, England Jul 29, 2004 A good brew. Roasty, malty flavours detected, but also some sweet dark fruit flavours.
It doesn’t feel like a 6.6% beer, which I found to my cost!
Very good.
