COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Previously a Winter seasonal.
Brewed with a mix of pale ale, chocolate and crystal malts, and hopped with Goldings, Challenger and Brewers Gold, it is dark mahogany-brown in colour, with the merest hint of crimson tints at its edge. Lush rich aromas of toffee, treacle. Mocha coffee, vinous fruit and chocolate swirl above the glass. There’s more complexity on the palate with rich fruitcake, a hint of rum, more Mocha coffee, an herbal hoppiness, vinous fruit, while the bittersweet finish is smooth yet complex, rich but not cloying.
NOTE: Original recipe used Fuggles hops instead of Brewers Gold.

Cask Persistent dense tan head; nearly black beer. Sweetish, some stout-like dark grains nose. Vanilla and some fruity esters. Quite to really sweet; liquorice-like, liquified sugar... and very few things beery. Full-bodied, slick, not quite viscous. Alcoholic to a certain extent. Disappointing - one more. It was better at some moor-tucked Devon pubs in Easter, than in an unseasonaly warm WHOPG.

Porteresk coffee and chocolate aroma. Black hue with light brown head. Roasted malt and chocolate flavour. Long lasting coffee finish.

Heavy, although not quite as heavy as you expect for this percentage. Slight treacleness about it.

Deep-brown, almost black. Really sweet buttery toffee malts, some slight roasty finish to give it some balance.I think theres too much butter toffee and raisins in there, really not my kind of beer.

Exmoor is a microbrewery based in the old Hancock's brewery in Somerset. They started brewing in 1979 and have won a handful of decent awards since then. This is their winter warmer and was tried from the cask in Rochester. It's a dark, coca cola colour and has an initial cola taste - slightly fizzy with sweet caramel tones. It is quite sweet, and this sweetness becomes overbearing after a while.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2008 Cask at troon beer fest 07. Aroma is liquirce, molasses. Taste is very full on tarrish alcohol liquice and very sweet. RERATE: Cask in Counting House. Full bodied! Sweet, cloying, roasty, liquyirice, coffee, molasses. Soo heavy and alcoholic i could only take 3 or 4 sips out the half pint then left.

Too sweet, too cloying, and generally overdone. A beer that doesn’t know what it wants to be. Nasty.
