2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 12, 2011
First tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in October 2005. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear dark amber in colour with light russet highlights and a thin open white head. Whiff of wood smoke and malt extract in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malts give a slight roast grain note followed by a maltloaf flavour, could not detect any strong fruit flavours. Spicy hops evident in the short floral aftertaste. Finish is weak and short on legs with a slightly sweet toffee note struggling through. An ok session bitter.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Kingston Beer Festival on 13 May 2011. Very surprised to find I’d not rated this before. Amber colour. Loose white head. Excellent condition. Rather farty sulphur aroma. Fruity flavour. A bit sweet. Ok but not too inspiring. Not convinced this was in top nick - flagged for re-rate.
