3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 AlchemikalGab (34) - Borgomanero (Novara), - DEC 23, 201233cl bottle @ home. Better to sip this alone, I tried it along with some pistacchio chocolate, but the very best of it came after a few sips without it. Pour a black liquid, with shades of brown, head is small but persistent Nose is raw but very interesting, I get ground coffee, tobacco, cocoa, I’d say a little leather and a warm sweet liquorice and dark fruits note after a while. Very harsh and bitter at first sip, it gives its best in the end, with some really slight alcoholic sweetness and a hint of acidity that makes it drinkable. Long pleasant aftertaste. If I was to describe this beer in a word it would be rustic, I had more "elegant" imperial stouts, more chocolatey, but this is one of my favourites.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dorqui (1768) - Brescia, ITALY - APR 1, 2013
Draught at "Italia Beer Festival 2013" - Milano.
Black color, fine and creamy nut head of long resistance. Much arid nose with decided rumors of coffèe and alcohol. Much roast mouth impression, notes of malt and roast wood, little caramel but predominant coffèe and bitte cacao smells. Very smooth body, long bitterness and dried final.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 lembeek (119) - ITALY - MAR 9, 2013
Colore ebano.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 mkel07 (2340) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - FEB 13, 2013
330ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Thick and oily looking in the glass with a slight tan head. Black as black can be with a very strong coffee aroma that is very full on. A big hit of coffee greets you from the first sip and then you get a smack from the alcohol, double whammy, in a good way. Even the smallest sips hits all parts of the mouth and stays on the palate.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 sebletitje (5418) - Enghien, BELGIUM - JAN 26, 2013
Draft @ Moeder Lambic Fontainas.
Reste solide.
3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Stew41 (1572) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - JAN 18, 2013
Promised a bit more than it delivered. Powerful and intense nose of chocolate and coffee bodes well but as is often the case the flavours don’t follow through the palate as you think it might. Milk chocolate sweetness is nice but the coffee falls away sharply. Finish is a bit underwhelming really with some simple sweet notes.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Davros (1484) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 10, 2013
Pours black with a large, lasting head.
Loads of coffee on the nose along with a fair bit of roasted malt, oatmeal and soft spicy hops.
Flavours are pretty much just roasted malt and bitter coffee along with a fair bit of sharp booze.
Loads too much carbonation.
Nice, but not enough roast and too much booze.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DeliriumT (327) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 24, 2012
Pours black with little to no head. Aroma is harsh bitter coffee. Flavour is dominated by the coffee which tastes a little too artificial (not convinced it actually is artificial, just tastes a bit like it)
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Svesse (5197) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - DEC 2, 2012
(Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, 18 Oct 2012) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with freshly ground coffee, cacao, dark chocolate and dark fruit. Roasted, malty taste with notes of black coffee, cacao, dark chocolate, dark fruit and a fairly sweet finish with a generous coffee bitterness and a certain alcohol bite. Almost full body, slightly sweetish. Very nice with a generous coffee character.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Piero1987 (374) - SWITZERLAND - OCT 25, 2012
Black with brown foam, intense coffee aroma. I feel also chocolate and liquorice. Taste is drinkable for an imperial stout and 9% is masked very well. Smooth with roasted aroma at taste, good balancing.
