3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Well-balanced ’compromis’ framboise with both commercial sweetness and subtle lambic-like funkiness, true raspberry taste as well as sugar. Tasted many years ago from tap at Botteltje in Ostend. Too bad Eylenbosch of Schepdaal went the way of the dodo in 1991, every lambic brewery disappearing is a loss for Belgian beer culture.

Bottle of 1994. Slight oxidation, raspberry finish, flat carbonization but still a round body for its age. Wonderful beer!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Kulminator. Clear deep reddish brown liquid with a small white head. Aroma of cardboard, bread, cinnamon, raspberries and lemon’. Taste is light sweet and light sour with notes of raspberries, cinnamon and bread. Medium bodied with very low carbonation. Still nice, probably a great beer once.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
1987 Vintage. 330mL bottle, pours a clear bronze amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out faded raspberries, funk, and cardboard. Flavour is very soft, with sweet raspberries, followed by only a touch of funk and maybe a hint of oxidation. The raspberries are surprisingly front and centre, with not a whole lot of funk or even oxidation. Carbonation is very soft, almost flat. This has stood up well. Very good stuff.

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle from Kulminator (1987). Hazy deep amber pour, no head. Aroma is toasty, dead and oxidized, carboardy, no raspberry aroma left. Taste of cardborad, chalk, ever so slight kind of light sweet fruitiness. Completely dead.

0.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
Bottle (375 ml) @ Kulminator. Vintage 1987. Hazy cola colour with no head and no lacing. Aroma is of raspberry jam, but there’s also a ton of garbage juice, cardboard and oxidation that takes all the place. The taste is of artificial raspberry jam that has gotten pretty bad (if that’s even possible) along carboard, garbage juice and the most horrendous aftertaste I have ever had in my life including after vomiting. Watery. Low carbonation. Sirupy mouthfeel. This one bad enough to make the Timmermans Woudvruchten we had at the same time look like a stellar lambic.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle @ Kulminator. Red brown colour. Aroma of red fruit (raspberries) and artificial sweeters. This beer is over the top. Too old and some cardboard taste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
1987 bottle shared at the Kulminator. It pours red-amber with a minimal white bubbly head. The nose is boiled sweets, sweet raspberry, tanginess and fruit gums. The taste is tangy berry, sweet-sour aspect, light tartness, jam, sherbet and chalk with a dry, faintly chalky finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot going on....but smooth, tangy and pretty drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
1987 bottle @ Kulminator. The pour’s deep ruddy red with a small head. The nose is rich rustic raspberry. Loads of sweet raspberry jam and just a hints of tartness. The taste is very simple raspberry candies. Time seems to have smoothed out some of the sweetness. What remains is just a really mellow, pleasant raspberry beer. Light body, smooth. Worth a try.
