Bottle courtesy of maschusch. 1982 vintage. Pours hazy burnt orange with a small offwhite head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is funky and smokey with crackers, lemon juice, green apples, smoked ham, moist hay, leather, barnyard, moist soil and lemon zest. Taste is sour, tiny fruity, slightly smokey and funky. Finish is sour with crackers, lemon juice, apples, smoked meat, leather, hay, moist soil, barnyard and lemon zest. Always cool to drink something as old as you. I’m about as sour and dry but not sure I’m as smokey. Solid gueuze but suspect it was better many years ago.

Bottled (vintage 88). Clear deep amber, no head. Sugary raisin aroma, some dried fruits. Sweet with low acidity. Very interesting, but not that good and surprisingly sweet.

Bottle (1984)... This beer rocks!... Lightly-hazed amber ale with no head. The bouquet is restrained and hard to pull from the glass, but it finally offers up lemony, funky notes of ancient cheese, horseblanket, manure and barnyard. Medium-bodied with tickling carbonation. The flavor is as sour as Hell, but also amazingly fruity with huge notes of pluot and apricot. The acidity is sharp, crisp and crystal clean. The funked-out, musty aroma doesn’t hint at the acutely acidic, fruity flavor and crisp, tart, clean finish. Ultra complex, fruity and flat out fantastic - from top to bottom - from start to finish. Big-time thanks to biggsbowler for acquiring this elusive, world-class rarity to share with the South Florida Crew!

Botte, ’84, generously shared by Randall. Clear burnt orange pour with a fleeting white head. Tart with lemon zest, butted orange, and grassy notes. Good body and mouthfeel. Impressive considering the age....

Bottle ’84 - pours amber color. Nice tart and sour aroma. The taste is nicely sour, grassy, and horse blanket taste. For a 30 year old bottle, this was amazing!!!

Vintage from the 80s. bottle was incredibly dirty unsurprisingly. So musty on the nose like smelling an old basement with cheese rind and leather shoes. taste was just about the same. flat cheesy, stale, mild dessert wine port notes with dried cow dung. Considering the age, not bad but couldn’t get through the glass.

Bottle (375 ml) @ In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst. Vintage 1988. Dark amber with a medium off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is very sweet with caramel, cheesy notes, light funk and cardboard. Taste is sweet for a gueuze with oxidation notes, caramel, light funk and cardboard. Medium/heavy body. Moderate carbonation. The bottle has held up very well, but it probably wasn’t that good from the start. Too sweet. We had it side bu side with the Eylenbosch Faro from the same year and it’s sweeter than the Faro. It was nice to try it though.

375ml bottle from Grote Dorst, 1988 vintage. Clear copper pour with white head, looks good for its age. Aroma is really sweet, intense caramel, cheesy funk, light cardboard, sherry. Taste is very sweet, sweeter still than the 88 faro actually, light carboard oxidization notes. Palate is also sweet, nice carbonation. I believe this bottle was in excellent condition, it just wasn’t very good.
