thebeertourist (1700), Oslo, Norway May 1, 2008 1988 vintage bottle at Akkurat, Stockholm. Pours hazy amber with an impressive little head considering its age. Highly complex aroma of fruit and cheese- still with sharp edges. The flavours are sharply acidic and fruity with yoghurt and a hint of cheese. Tastes actually more like a sharp vlaams rood than a geuze. Body is still decent. Impressive; quality passes the test of time.
fonefan (4062), Ulfborg, Denmark Jul 16, 2008 Bottle 75cl @ 17th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2008. [Vintage 1988 - from the old Eylenbosch factory] . Unclear hazy orange grey color with a virtually none appearance, virtually none lancing head. Aroma is green apple, sour - tart, oak, citrus. Flavor is light to moderate sweet and moderate acidic with a long duration, and a dry dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (240508) beastiefan2k (1065), Hicksville, New York, USA Jul 7, 2008 This bottle has a soaked cork and has a good pop from the carbonation. Color is clear amber with visible carbonation and a small head. Aroma is mainly muddy leaves and wet wood (a lot of barrel I guess). Past that is a light, mild lambic, which is slightly lemon citric and sour. It is light malt-vinegar and mainly oak. Taste is a bit more lambic and less oak with a nice dryness at the end. Much more lively in the taste, where as it was much older on the nose. Not much acidity or anything else. Seems filtered and/or pasteurized since there is no heavy leftover sediment. Its easy drinking and light. A bit more funk and lemon citrus with the end of the bottle. Clouds up with light acidity as well, much better this way, but again still wasn’t thick enough to be sediment of a 24 year old bottle conditioned bottle. I liked it but it definitely was not spectacular or anything. 750mL, 1984 vintage, heavier glass with a different gold foil than the one shown in the picture, from Grote, split 3 ways. lilannie (380), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle from 1988:
Aroma: minerals, mustiness, some fruitiness--like peaches and apricots, watermelons, some "greeness" like stems or leaves, hisbiscus flowers
Appearance: murky, dirty yellow, lots of yeast
Flavor: watermelon, jerky, slight smoked meat flavors, some mustiness and minerals
Palate: smooth still quite tart, some aged flavors but not overwhelming CapedBrewsader (179), Brasschaat, Belgium Jun 18, 2008 Bottle at the Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2008. 1988 vintage: Cloudy amber with a thin film of bubbles that run to the sides of the glass. Aromas seem a bit subdued but very nice. Normal barnyardy funk with lactic acid, tart fruits, some white wine vinegar. Good musty earthiness and a touch of cork. Slightly grassy, or hay. Possibly a touch of malt in the back? Smooth is definitely the word! Once tasted you see how well this beer has aged. No negative effects from oxidation. Good tight sourness that is well blended into all the complex flavors. Fruity tartness. Apples. Mouth watering. Earthy. Finishes with a long dry acetic nature. Light sherry build-up towards end. Fantastic! Jerre (1285), Waregem, Belgium Jun 17, 2008 Bottle 75 cl. Taste this 1988 vintage - old Eylenbosch factory- with Marc and Steven the day before Vilvordia ’08)
Hazy almost amber color, no head. Aroma very woordy, sourness and complex. Medium body.
Taste you don’t have the idae this beer is 20 years old: sour, malts, fruits, complex.
