1984 vintage enjoyed at the Grote Dorst. Cheers, Brad. Bright, clear golden-orange color with impressive white head. Aromatics and flavor are tart and lemony, with just touches of must and dust in the backdrop. Champagnoise carbonation, relatively low acidity, and no funky stuff -- very fine! Light bitterness. Refreshing. It begs for big gulps, an amazing thing for a 24-year-old beer.

1983 bottle with some carbonation left in it. Bottle courtesy of GRG1313. Pours with a clear, deep golden hue with a lasting white head. Aroma is musty, mostly cork, acid, apple, and rotten wood. Flavors are sweet, faded, appley, mild funk. Still lively bubbles, but the corked character makes it dead. Fun to try. We had a older Hassens that day (something from the 50s), and while flat, held its flavors much better.

At the sour Tasting @ DSG, many thanks DSG, 1984 vintage with a cork full of black mold and the bottle’s glass showing some signs of fatigue, pours an hazy sticky like orange with no head, aroma of cherries, acids, malt and some leaves, flavor is sourish with lemon, vinegar, leather and leaves, some moldy tones with zestiness, pretty good gueze after all.

Bottle, DHVL. Mostly clear on the first pour, amber in color, with a small fizzy thin head. Looks almost still. The nose is quite funky, full of cobwebs and a touch of cork, but not much. No noticable acidity and some light oxidation. Unfortunately the flavor is a little too over the hill to really be enjoyable, too much oxidation, overly corked. It actually tastes a little sweet. Not much funk or cellar character. Overly thin in body with little to no carbonation. The oxidation really lingers. Over the hill, but worth the gamble here. The next one might be phenominal.

750mL bottle from De Heeren during our last day in Belgium. Ordered from the cellar list. They didn’t know the exact year, but the guess was one of the bottles from the late 80’s, so I’m guessing probably the 1988 vintage given the prevalence of that one. Reviewed from notes. Served from a lambic basket into a HORAL mini gueuze tumbler. Pour was the color of a dark apple cider with no head or lacing. Probably to be expected from a 20+ year old beer. The nose was quite nice with light apple cider character and quite a bit of funk plus some mild acidity. There was a lice earthiness throughout. The flavor was a bit more acidic with a bit more cider and less funk. Body was super smooth. Light to medium body with light funk through the finish and a bit of acidity. Very clean and a pleasure to try.

Courtesy of a generous trader, vintage 1984, 26 years old
Corked bottle; under the plastic film, the ugly mold has worn some millimeters of the cork, that is printed and guarantees the name of the brewery, from Schepdaal.
Beautiful golden-copper color, bright (at least, the first glass; the second one is cloudy orange); limited carbonation, mostly without head, with little perlage.
Mild aroma, sour components, wood, light plastic, a bit corky. Not exciting, though it improves after a few minutes.
Light bodied, but with the age it probably acquired a smoother mouthfeel; the flavor is sour, very lemony; the final is dry, acidic, a bit astringent but also rather short.
I am missing some more funky elements, lacking in complexity.
It will go well with my smoked mackerel, today.

Test vom 13.8.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,11,12,12,-,12 - 11,82

Copenhagen Beer Festival. Huge thanks to Jacob (Hildigoltur) for pulling this from his cellar and sharing. Sourish woody nose. Easy going sour beer. A little acidic but nicely rounded off with a soft dry palate.

1982 Bottle thanks to Dstructo at Stone Sour Fest. Thought I’d put in my rating but couldn’t find it. Extremely muddy brown color, but that’s to be expected. Taste was heavy on lactic tartness, very funky and resembling an extremely moldy cheese. Pretty drinkable, although a touch of vinegar has no doubt poked through from age. Good beer, one that has held up amazingly well.

Clear golden orange pour with a thin white head. The aroma is very earthy and corky. Softly tart with a ton of cheesy/funky aroma. Soft tartness with a lot of soft texture. A bit of light earthiness. A bit of soft vanilla character along with a touch of tartness. Surprisingly very tasty. Showing it’s age, but it’s still drinking quite nicely..
