Slacks (358), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Nov 20, 2006 Cask @ The Woolwich Arms, Guelph, ON: I’m wondering if I didn’t get a bad batch of this bad boy as my feelings don’t appear to be in harmony with many others. Came bubbly orange with a lacing of head, aroma of sickly sweetness. The taste was almost vegetal and seemingly off, sweet in that "wet grass" sort of way. Some hops present but the odd tangy sweetness was overbearing. I’ll have to try it again to see if it wasn’t just a bad batch.
Barnabus (28), Niagara, Ontario, Canada Jun 15, 2008 On tap at the Wooly in Guelph. It was perfect for the day (slightly hot and humid after a rain). Very fresh tasting with carmel and a touch of apple. A midly bitter aftertaste and a slightly dry mouth feel. mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 30, 2007 [776-20071020] Cask @ Volo Cask Days 2007 (Toronto, ON). Bit of grainy tea in the aroma. Hazy, orange brown body with a bubbly white head. Sweet grainy yeast and nice hoppy chocolate notes. Medium body. Great balance of grains and hops and yeast. GregClow (2351), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2007 Draught pint at the Woolwich Arms in Guelph. Light clear copper with a thin but persistent white head. Aroma and flavour are both quite grainy and grassy - made me feel like I was in the middle of a grain field. Light body, and a sparingly hopped finish. A decent pub pint to go with my bison burger, but not something I’d consider a go-to beer. VeloVampire (400), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 18, 2007 On tap at the Magpie - came a glorious golden/orange colour with a thick white head. Aroma sweet caramel malt, a good amount of herbal hops and some grassiness as well. Nice. Flavour similar, but with a delicate citrus quality, and a fair bit of nuttiness as well. This one’s kind of all over the place - not necessarily a bad thing. Fairly light bodied with a mild bitter finish. Good stuff, and a bit underrated I think, like most of the F&M beers. I would definitely get this again, preferably in late summer/early fall, as befits a "Harvest Ale".
