Pint enjoyed at the Kick Off. Taps an opaque deep brown with a tiny tan surface film. The aroma has some nice toffee malts and vanilla mixed in with enticing coffee roast. The flavour hits right away with dry roast, mixed in with some sweet caramel and toffee malts, in good balance. Minor dry/bitter, astringent bite on the tongue in the finish that impressed me. The mouth-feel is somewhat full but lacks the richness of body I might expect in an oatmeal stout. Still, this is a very tasty beer and I’m glad I finally got to try it. I could session this all night as I think it’s one of the best stout’s produced in this province.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2011 Update: On tap at the brewery 14/11/11 - ricch black body, massive tan cap, even sweet-bitter-roasty character with a lightly dry finish. Top flight london styled oatmeal stout. Dregs of the keg at the Kiwi: Black and light shedding, puffy tan cap, good lace. Cocoa and coffee dominate the nose, wafts of dark fruit and grass. Thin bodied but coffee predominates flavor but there are some herbal fresh hop cone bittering balance. Finished clean dry and bitter with a tad of astringency. Good effort.

draught at the Wooly. Deep black colour, brown head. Aroma was all coffee. A little underwhelming, but I think it was served a little too cold. Taste is dark roast, coffee, a touch of licorice in the aftertaste. On a dreary rainy day, this was a very enjoyable beer.

[1976-20090131] Cask. Coffee oil roast aroma has a hint of chocolate. Black body with a small long-lasting creamy tan head. Dark dry-roasted wood and charcoal malt flavour. Full body is dry. Quite dry and lovely, this combination of flavours really appeals to me.

Aroma solid aroma. Good clean coffee roast. Feel of dark barley and starch/ Ligh notes of hops.8-
Appearance brown-black with light beige creamy top. Proper.
Flavor and Palate : Frontal bitterness with hint of smoke. Dark roast right behind followed by lighter chewy character. Raw bitterness adds positive feel to already solid impression. Well done.

Cask at Victory Cafe, and bottles from the brewery. Deep almost-black colour with a finger or two of creamy, dark tan head. Both aroma and flavour hold a lot of coffee, which meshes well with the dark roasted malt. There are also hints of cocoa and licorice, and a pleasant soft roundness on the palate. One minor complaint is that the body might be considered a touch thin for the style, but it’s so good otherwise, I’m willing to overlook that.
