Pours dark brownish black with dark tan head that quickly fades to black. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts and slight molasses. Flavor is watery and quite bitter/sour. Overly thin body.

Falls fails. We eat and drink with our eyes first. The visual prepares us for the rest. This poured promising. Dark brown, almost black. Ample brown head. So far, so good. Faint hints of chocolate in the nose. Weak coffee. Too carbonated for a porter. The flavor was too acrid to be enjoyed. In the end, it didnít live up to its appearance.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Black color with a medium head. Aroma has some coffee along with hints of what I think is port. Definitely a winey character. The taste takes a sudden turn for the worst. Sour milk poured over sour raspberries. Not kosher.

1.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown/black body under a voluminous tan head that lasts for a long time. Lots of carbonation. Dark chocolate aroma with a hint of acidic roastiness. So far so good! That big head had me worried and thatís confirmed by the flavor. Thin and sour with light chocolate/roast in the background.

12oz bottle via trade with Duane - Thanks Duane! - I wish Iíd have read the ratings before opening this. Pours beautiful dark brown with a huge rocky tan head that stayed well and laced.. Nose was somewhat roasty but there was a funky sourness there. Taste is just about like BBB63 described it.. Very lambic-like sour. Just a touch of smoky roasted notes behind it but mostly not good. Iíll certainly rerate this if I ever can get my hands on another bottle..

1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20
Bottle from John:
WARNING, this beer has gone south for the winter, extremely sour and lactic to the point of becoming undrinkable.
Poured nice enough, muddy deep brown with a huge initial tan head that faded but never left and had some nice lace. The nose was lactic and showed some signs of chocolate and smoky black malt. The taste is awful, almost lambic like without the yeasty funk, very sour. Covered any other flavors save some smoke on the finish. AVOID unless a new bottle is available.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Rileyís in Madison. Poured black with iced-tea brown highlights around the edges. Tall, creamy deep brown head that receded to a thin layer after a couple minutes. Some lacing. Tart and somewhat sour roasted chocolate aroma. Sour lactic notes abound in the flavor with a short, dry, and sour chocolate finish. Flavor of roasted/burnt milk chocolate and metal. Seemed like something was off in this one.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: NOV 25, 2005 Bottle: Near opaque black with a tall dark tan head. Decent lace. Large roasted malt aromas with a mild lactic note. Light roasted malt flavors with a again a mild milk stout quality. Dry uneventful finish. Almost to dry as one is left pondering whether it is worth going forward. Seems closer to a dry milk stout, but a decent black ale. As a later side note this seems to be getting more sour with age.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the 2005 Great Taste of the Midwest: Pours a dark opaque with a thin off-white head. Semi-tart roasty aroma has a touch of dark chocolate and coffee. Starts mildly sweet and smooth, finishing more dry, but is kinda thin for a porter. Still has decent flavor though and is quite drinkable.
