COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Falls Porter is, in our humble opinion, one of the best available. Dark, rich, and inviting; it leaves the pallet wanting for more. Only the finest pale, chocolate, crystal and black patent malts are selected for brewing. Only traditional English hops are allowed near the brew kettle. Only during the first day of a New Moon is the secret ingredient added. The result is inky black, and opaque with an incredibly full malt aroma and taste. The fine brown head coats the lip until the last sip. The finish leaves hints of chocolate and coffee. Roast beef, and prime rib feel honored to be served with this brew.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pretty thick pour. Opaque black color. Head was a rich cocoa brown color and reduced slowly to a thin film. There was some decent lace on the glass at the end. Pleasant aroma of cocoa and light roasty malt. Roasty and bitter on the tongue with a dominant coffee flavor and a misplaced tart note. Although it looked thick when poured, the body was only light to medium. It had promising beginnings in terms of the aroma and big roastiness on the tongue, but I didn’t particularly care for the ever present tartness.

A tolerable brew at best. Pours a dark black colour with a small tan head. Taste was very chocolatey, coffee beans and toffee. Sweet caramel aroma. Mouthfeel is creamy, finishes with subtle hops taste.

12 oz. bottle... Poured black with thin head. Aroma is smokey chocolate and slightly nutty. Taste is rich chocolate with also a smokey almond flavor. Overall a really good porter and to think this brewery is only a 1/2 hour from my house. I must have had a newer bottle because the label has improved.

First off, Oconto Falls needs to hire somebody for their labeling. As for the beer, pours a thin black liquid with a trace of head and no lacing. I’m starting to think I got bad bottles. Smells and tastes awful. Like old coffee poured into an ashtray. Again, as with the others I’ve tried from them, there is an unpleasant mineral aftertaste. On second thought, forget about improving the labels, focus on the beers. As bad as my reviews were, I do see some promise and havn’t written them off...yet.

Starts out decent -- pours dark and cola-like in a glass, with a nice head. Aroma is smoky and roasted coffee. Flavor starts nice but there is an absolutely unacceptable lemony flavor at the end. Ruins the whole damn thing.

The bottle I poured from had a much nicer label than the one shown here. This beer is a thick nearly black, dark brown ale with a slender tan head that lingers none too long. It’s got an aroma of roasted and burnt dark malts along with some bittersweet chocolate. Some old coffee and a sharp bitterness round the drink out nicely. Kind of a dry, smokey finish. Okay.

12 ounce bottle with a film noir looking chick in a black dress on the label - fairly dark pour - pretty fizzy, making the beer look like cola - chocolate malt and light roasty notes in the aroma, not much else - pretty dry, with the chocolate malt pretty evident - relatively high hop bitterness, with a tartness along with it that may be the beginnings of an infection - tobacco and ash in the finish - my second beer from this brewery - it shall be my last.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Flanagan’s in Appleton, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with lots of tan head that nearly went over the glass top when poured at below 40 degrees. The light tan head slowly dissolves to a lumpy and thick head that also has some excellent lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, dark roasted malt, some flowery hops and some tart berries. Taste is quite sour! Medium bodied with lots of carbonation. The tart berry flavor is just too overpowering. Finish has some dark roasted malt character but the tartness was too great to finish. This may be an infected bottle. I am hoping this brewery will fix their bottling equipment or I’ll just have to re-rate this one when I find this on tap.

I had this at the Great Northern beer festval in Eagle River, and bought some at Flanagan’s to take home. This quacks like a pretty serious porter - it is inky black and has a nice roasty flavor, if you can keep it in your glass. My single bottle gushed out of the bottle (not when I opened it, but when I turned the bottle to pour it) with a very shallow, non-agressive pour into a pint glass. I got 99% head and 1% liquid. Granted the head was a nice tan mass of uniformly medium-sized bubbles, but I was still irritated...I’m drinking the rest of this one straight from the bottle. Except for the over-carbonation, I thought this beer was not very complex but rather nice. This is definitely the best 21st percentile 2.56 average beer I’ve ever had. I would recommend.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2007 Bottle. Poured a black with a tan foamy head. Coffee and chocolate are prevelant. Very nice mouthfeel. Good lacing. Just not that complex. Not a wow, but a bit underrated on this site. Kinda expensive.
