Gravity at Derby Beer Festival. Was voted beer of the festival as I was drinking it; even I had to scratch my head and wonder why. By no means a bad ale, by no means an Irish red either. It’s a solid, creamy bitter, but Falstaff have produced much better.

A copper coloured premium bitter with the emphasis on caramel and soft malt, with some balancing hop bitterness. Not red at all. As maieb says, no way is this an Irish ale. And I’m very surprised that this was voted beer of the festival. An honest, respectable, upstanding bitter, no more. Difficult to get too excited. Cask (gravity dispense) at Derby Beer Festival.

Cask conditioned - gravity - Derby BF. Described in the programme as an Irish Red style and winner of Berr of the Fest. To me it’s neither, just a decent premium bitter. An amber to mid brown colour and a fairly malty sweet taste. The taste is sweet and malty with a bit of toffee but it’s no more so than a lot of bitters. Nice though!
