COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Fanø Hvede is brewed using both wheat and barley malt, which makes it an easily drinkable beer with a distinct fruity aroma.

Courtesy of Papsø; thanks for passing me a Hefeweizen after having spent two weeks in Germany and having plans to work there for the year to come!
Expired 1 year ago

It pours a muddy orange-golden color, with a thin head and turbulent perlage. The aroma shows a suspicious, light sourness, and quite a lot of yeast. The body is weak (probably not stored in good conditions, the yeast completed its action), with a very strong yeast flavor; very light fruity touch. The total absence of sugars enhance the bitterness in the end, that would otherwise go unnoticed. Off.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden colour with a frothy off-white/yellowish head. Sweetish, hoppy aroma. Feels a bit stingy. Slight notes of yeast in the background, but nowhere near what as is usually the amount in wheat beers. Metallic notes as it warms. Flavour is metallic with hops. Slightly grainy. No yeast, until it has warmed quite a bit, and then only slight notes. Sweet, slightly citrus, hops in the finish. Candy-like notes as it warms. Lingering grassy and slight apple notes. A bit dry. A fair beer, although nothing special, and not what I’m used to in wheat beers; almost no yeast notes, and the citrus hop notes in the finish (but personally I’m okay with that). 15-04-09.

Bottle, bought @ SuperBest, Christiansfeld.
Pours muddy, dark golden-ish. Fine, small, frothy, off-white head. Fair duration, slight lacings. Sweet aroma, light malty. Very subdued fruitiness - slight banana. High carbonation, slight frothy mouthfeel. Flavour is light metallic, some sweet, fat malts. There is quite a bit of hops actually. The bitterness feels a bit ashy. Not an impressive hefe, but still okay.
