aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Jul 9, 2004 Bottle...holy jeez! It’s like Rodenbach Grand Cru’s little brother. Very prominent apples, very crisp. Clean finish; enough alcohol to declare its presence but it’s not overpowering. Ultra-sweet-smooth, my highlight beer of the night. Kinz (1894), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Apr 25, 2008 Courtesy of The_Beer_God as part of the 6th Richmond Gathering. Deep amber, clear, nice head. Nutty, earthy tartness in the aroma. Earth, roast, nuts, some woodiness but not oak. Very, very complex to say the least. There is a heck of a lot going on here. tiggmtl (4175), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 28, 2004 Alcohol-spiked clovey oranges with dark candi sugar in the aroma. Opaque brown body with light tan head that recedes to cover. Slight sourness and roasted malt character in the background. Very spicy up front with decent bitterness. Spiciness lasts on the tongue. Body is lighter than normal for a Fantome but still very nice in the mouth. Refreshing and very easy to drink. Bottle. Enjoyed with hopsrus, MartinT and Rastacouere. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Jun 27, 2003 So far, this is my second-favorite Fantome brew, though evidently others don't rate it as highly. While some found it sour bordering on Flanders Red Ale territory, I saw nothing of the sort, so I suspect a bad cork or infected bottle was to blame for others' sourness issues. The beer's 8% alcohol is hard to discern and the body is moderately malty with only slight citrus notes. Great farmhouse, yeasty aroma and a beautiful beige head. Noticeable sweetness to be found. Very little bitterness here - this beer is about a dense malty, earthy body with lots of yeasty character. Think of a Saison meeting a Brown Ale. Just delicious! haukur (663), Reykjavik, Iceland Dec 21, 2003 very pretty head, special, it christals!! this is a very complex brew, fresh mocca??!! earthy, wildberry, bitter malt finish with berries, earthy notes and a little "rousse" feeling about this brew....
