CharlesDarwin (1333), State College, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 Updated: May 11, 2008 750mL Bottle (likely from 2005 or 2006). Noses in rubbery spiced aroma, but too medicinal. Plant-like and bit vegetal. Chewy. Pours a clouded amber with off-white rim. Salty caramel, spice, lots of good saison yeast, but oxidized. Malts are minimal. A little past it’s peak. Dusty and settled. Malts aren’t bad. No hops. But none of that effervescent exuberance. Hasn’t held up well, which is surprising for a malty, 8% Saison.
gsmitty80 (499), Washington DC, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle, Brikskeller, Great beer, i dont know what year it was and i dont want to rate it until i do. But im sure no matter what year you drink, im sure its great. MatSciGuy (171), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2008 [Bottle] shared by JK. Pours a murky brown with a smallish tan head. Aroma is a little weak. Typical Fantome spices, but pretty hard to place. Very earthy aroma. Flavor follows, and is a little thin and watery for my taste. padrefan98 (574), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Jun 30, 2008 Sampled at the BA Alesmith release. Aromas were a tiny bit sour. Flavors of clove and some orange peel. Good. fordest (1655), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jun 28, 2008 Sampled at the Alesmith BA Release line tasting. Aromas of fruit and spice. Flavors were more of the same with the spices really coming through more than the bright fruits that were evident in the aromas. Nice finish without a lot of alcohol flavor. Good stuff. blackmurder (163), sadf, Hawaii, USA Jun 26, 2008 The flavor is the only bad point to this beer and it isn’t even that bad, just very plain for a Belgian.
