undsioux7 (466), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Feb 16, 2008 The strange ghost lurks at the bottom of my beer stirring up a cloudy mixture of dark amber/brown murkiness. He hides underneath a layer of tan and brown spekled clouds. His scent is sweet but not too sweet. There is a farm smell from the ghost roaming around the barn, and some spice from trolling through the garden. The ghost left something tart in the beer while swimming in it. He left some of the spices he picked up through the garden also. Some of the ghost must still be in there since it is a little thicker than a traditional saison.
The ghost wasn’t bad, but didn’ scare me much.
piscator34 (889), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jul 12, 2008 Bottled sample. Dark amber in colour with a fair bit of haze and medium carbonation. All sorts of spices on the nose: nutmeg, cinnamon, lemongrass, and black pepper. There’s also some of that typical Fantome funky yeast and some mellow pale malts. In the mouth, it’s strong herbs again, with more nutmeg, citrus peel, mint, camphor, and maybe even a little oregano. The mouthfeel is totally bizzare: it starts off medium-dry, then seems to evaporate completely... somewhat ghost-like perhaps? Anyway, a strange beer to say the least. Not my favorite Fantome, but interesting nonetheless jayg (997), Florida, USA Jun 21, 2008 Dark brown in color with a loose, sparse off-white head. Nice aroma, not as funky as a typical Fantome, but has some real nice herbal characters with a slight sharpness to it. Taste is pretty straightforward with a light toasty graininess followed by a faint tart twinge and more herbal character. A very subdued Fantome. cmillward (143), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle @ ORL throwdown, courtesy of SoLan. This pours deep amber with a fair-sized off-white head. The craziness that is this beer unleashes itself upon your nose. Mint! Peppermint, eculyptus, hay, a slight hint of the usual Fantôme funk, and a nice dose of pepper to finish of this beer aromatic arsenal. The flavor is more muted, definite tartness, some grass and slight herbal bitterness. Well-balanced carbonation and drying in the mouth make it easier to finish, but the flavor overall was not my thing. JB175 (1274), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 10, 2008 Brown color with a medium head. Aroma has some very interesting, raw herbs and citrus. Flavor was a bit yeasty and bready but the herbal undertones overpowered and took this one down a notch. My least favorite Fantome, but creative and interesting (as all Fantomes are). PhillyBeer2112 (1815), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jun 1, 2008 Throwdown. Cough drops. Minty and fruit, with eucalyptus and herbals. Finish is strongly herbal. There’s just a touch of caramel underlying everything.
