Commercial Description:
A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Pours a tans light copper amber with a two finger crackling offwhite head. The nose is funky, yeasty, earthy, mildly spicy, peppery, some sweetness, mild fruity esters, . The flavor is a tad spicy, estery, crisp bite, mildly sweet, yeasty, very light and crisp. The palate is crisp and a tad spicy. Tasty.

Well its about fricken time fantome went back to their roots and funked the shizzy up. I could smell that oozing bandage under the horse saddle from miles away...putting a nose up the glass just bombards you with dank sweat, funk, cheese, soiled leather, socks, oh how I miss thee oh fantome. Pours with obvious effervescence, thick tightly woven bubbles covering a dirty orange underneath. Flavors are tainted with sourness, and clean but dank cheese overtones...maybe a bit of chalkiness riding along from the cocoa power..do I taste chili? I’m not sure..but I certainly feel the capsicum heat that lingers on and on and makes me feel good. ahh man, this brings back some serious old school fantome memories

Bottle thanks to Blutt59. Color was hazy lemony orange w/ white head. Aroma was of funky butt with hints of cinnamon and choclate. Smell made me gag. Taste was of sour pepper. Defenitely not up to this level of beer yet!!

Bottle hauled back from West Lakeview. Pours caramel in color, almost like sandstone, with a trim white head. Highly acidic. Dear Lord, this smells like stomach acid. Really had a hard time drinking this one after I made that association. The chocolate is MIA. I get that this is cocoa, but there is virtually no sweetness present at all. The chili pepper is discernable in the flavor, but doesn’t really add much. Tastes watered down and just plain bland. Ay, Caramba!

Bottle graciously shared by nbutler11 at a recent non-epic. I was teasing him while corking about how I didn’t want another Theobroma disappointment in terms of cacao use. Then this happened. Nose of tart seed, yeast. Flavor is that hollow underripe apple, anemic spice of Theobroma - the kind that hints at chocolate but ISN’T. Tart, abrupt finish. Really unsophisticated beer after a Grand Slam from the same Brasserie. Baffling.
