3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle back from Greensboro. I was thankful and lucky to find this gem up there recently. Wild aroma dominated by some grass, floral esthers, and citrus. Slight sour flavor but more earthy with some citrus and spice. Pours is cloudy orange. Nice smooth drink with a bit of earthy, fruity character.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750mL bottle, courtesy of bstill. Thanks, Brian! Dark orange, thin off-white creamy head. Grassy wet mushroom aromas warm to hints of cheese and earth. Toasted grains and cooked veggie flavor round to a grassy light bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Though I normally like Fantome, this one was just not my cup of tea…

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big thanks to Beerlando for cracking this one. Moderate golden color, thin even white head. Musky, linty aroma, light caramel and dark fruit hints. Vaguely sweet funk on the taste, some herbal notes, some dusty attic tones, and some age apparent as well. In regards to the bottle we had, maybe a bit past its prime, but still it seems like a very centric Fantome in that it is very malty and less herbal. Aight.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Beerlando for the taste of this vintage Fantome! Pours an amber color with a nice aroma of a little caramel and lots of malts and yeast. There is a natural funkiness but a little skunk in the back, possibly from aging. I think I was the only one having a taste that really noticed the skunk. The taste was the same. A lot of herbs, burnt sugar and yeast with just a bit of skunkiness in the back. Overall, great vintage.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a very hazy, dark sienna brown color. A small but well retained, cream colored head leaves spotty lace that mostly rejoins the body. Aromas include a strong caramel and brown sugar malt base, with complimentary notes of figs, golden raisons, apples, and the signature, minty Fantôme yeast. There’s a strong toasted sugar notes that is reminiscent of scorched marshmallows. Flavors continue the same feel, with burnt caramel and marshmallow sweetness showing alongside a bevy of overly ripe, golden fruits. The palate is smooth and creamy up front, finishing semi-dry and yeasty. This is definitely not your typical Fantôme, and I’d even argue that this is more Belgian Ale than Saison. Regardless of the classification, it is a solid brew even with significant aging.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very special treat courtesy Beerlando! Deep amber color. Crazy aroma! Candied orange peel, burnt caramel, minty herbalness all in the nose. Flavor has notes of licorice and mint. There’s a brightness to the herbality, almost a spearminty wintergreen aspect. Light semi-dry finish. Deeply herbal. Very unusual, fun, unique in the Fantome way.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, courtesy of Beerlando! Pours a dark murky amber top with a white head with some nice lacing. Aroma of apples, lots of caramel malts, minty Fantome funk, and some pepper. Flavor of light apples, caramel, some pepper, spiciness and mint. Quite smooth and dry with a little astringency to the finish, a little tart. Surprisingly malty for a Fantome, very good. Obviously had some age on it, hadn’t gotten as tart and acidic as some of the other aged Fantomes that I’ve had the opportunity to sample.

3.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2008 750ml from the Bstill-ery vaults, thanks Brian. Bottled in 2004, sampled in 2008. Murky orange-brown color. Very interesting subtle tastes going on behind the smooth malty body. Mild yeast character helps smooth the beer out. There is an earthy, almost vegetable flavor in there it seems. The aroma has deteriorated significantly, perhaps the taste has suffered as well. Nonetheless remains quite enjoyable and drinkable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Brian for this one. Hazy amber with tall fluffy white head and lots of fluffy lacing. Aroma is kind of dry with brown sugar. Flavor is slightly maple, brown sugar, dry finish, no stickiness, and a bit of candy sugar mellowness.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL bottle, courtesy of bstill. Thanks, Brian! Pours a bright, golden-amber color; off-white head with good retention and glistening, mixed-bubbled lacing. Musty, tea, and stalky floral notes and light citrus in the aroma; maybe a touch of dried parsley; really nice, interesting, musty nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: toasty breadiness, tea-like malts, and floral notes upfront; solid amounts of characteristic Fantome funk, dry toasty malts; very drinkable, funky, and dry. Lengthy finish: dry toasty malts, breadiness, hints of spice and floral notes.
