   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 15/20
Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, USA - SEP 25, 2008
Pours a very hazy, dark sienna brown color. A small but well retained, cream colored head leaves spotty lace that mostly rejoins the body. Aromas include a strong caramel and brown sugar malt base, with complimentary notes of figs, golden raisons, apples, and the signature, minty Fantôme yeast. There’s a strong toasted sugar notes that is reminiscent of scorched marshmallows. Flavors continue the same feel, with burnt caramel and marshmallow sweetness showing alongside a bevy of overly ripe, golden fruits. The palate is smooth and creamy up front, finishing semi-dry and yeasty. This is definitely not your typical Fantôme, and I’d even argue that this is more Belgian Ale than Saison. Regardless of the classification, it is a solid brew even with significant aging.

(Rating #4088)

Pours a murky dark amber color with a small off-white head. Heavy on the cardboard aroma and lots of blue cheese. A bit of caramel, toast, and yeast. Maybe some pepper. Sweet caramel flavor followed by lots of cardboard.

Pours dark brown, hazy, beige head that dissappears quickly. Aroma is chocolate powder, cardboard, and some caramel. Flavor is heavy on the cocoa and cardboard but also shows some nice caramel flavors, a hint of banana, and some light spice flavor. Not bad but definitely past it’s peak. Thanks Jason.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2012 Bottle courtesy of sincereNc. Thanks a BUNCH, Ian! Pours a gorgeous, translucent burnished bronze, and is topped by a creamy beige head. Aroma is peppery candied ginger with a sweet, but elegant, sake-like graininess. Flavor reveals the nose, and adds notes of sandalwood, sherry, toasted pumpkin seeds, earthy mushroom mustiness, and a tarragon-like herbal quality. Mouthfeel is velvety, and the light hops cut the emerging sweetness for a nice, semi-dry finish. Really like the 6.4% instead of Dany’s typical 8%. This bottle was phenomenal.

Thanks to Beerlando for sharing this one! Classic Fantome funkiness on the nose with a strong maltiness. Pours amber blonde with a thin white head. Peppery, funky, with some caramel, malty, a slight minty flavor with hints of marhmellow. Awesome.

An orange-brown body with a thin white head. Sweet aroma, something almost reminds me of a nice sake. Taste again has some rice accents with a nice light apple and some grass. Smooth, yet slightly hot ending. Very nice.

Huge thanks go out to FlacoAlto for hooking me up with this beer, thanks Sebastian! Poured a bright, ruddy orange color with a thick, dense, rocky beige head that left some nice lacing as it slowly receded. Aroma of rustic orange peel and light lemon, a hint of soft caramel, a bit of wheat paired with a light barnyard yeastiness and some faint floral hoppiness. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some light tropical fruitiness and some dry orange peel offset by a soft spiciness and a moderate cobweb-like barnyard yeastiness that finishes lightly dry and bitter with some faint lingering hoppiness. Low carbonation and moderate mouthfeel thanks to the texture created by the yeastiness. Held up well considering the age, I bet it was awesome fresh. Thanks again Flaco, I owe you big time.

Bottle back from Greensboro. I was thankful and lucky to find this gem up there recently. Wild aroma dominated by some grass, floral esthers, and citrus. Slight sour flavor but more earthy with some citrus and spice. Pours is cloudy orange. Nice smooth drink with a bit of earthy, fruity character.
