Commercial Description:
Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody's guess...the Fantôme confounds once again.

Dark brown pour with slight yellow head. Full roasted spice nose. Kinda burnt wood flavor. It was ok. Another one I need to try again to see if there’s a difference.

When I opened my 75cl bottle it proptly fizzed up out of the top with a consistent overflow. It had been sitting in my fridge for a least a week and I took care not to shake it up. So my first thought was that it was infected. After tasting the brew and reading other reviews I believe my original opinion was correct. There are strong lambic tasting, lactic acid and barnyard notes, though I must say it is quite appealing. The mix of lactic acid and roasted malt with saison spiciness makes for an interesting and flavorful beer. I am pretty sure this was not the brewers intent, but because I am a lambic fan I am thoroughly enjoying the mishap.

Dark brown with some red tints, thick off-white head and lacing. Aroma first brings lemon zest, along with some coriander perhaps, plus raisins. At times resembles a deep red wine, at other times spicy and dry, sweet, smoke, a finish approaching sourness--it’s all over the place. And like other Fantome brews, the carbonation is soft, dancing lightly on the palate.

Bottled. Pours a dark caramel color with red hues. Light tan head. Big malty aroma with some spice, fruits and yeast notes. Flavor is pretty "out there". Sweet and malty with some bready notes, a bit of sourness and some dark fruits (plums mostly). Becomes somewhat smoky as it warms.

Aroma of roasted, chocolate malts and licorice. Cloudy, brown coloured with a lasting brown head. Taste is bitter, sweet, heavily malty. Nice beer.
Rerate. Old rating 3.4 Bottled. Tasting @ Kolding Bryglaug. Milky yellow coloured with a thin lace Taste is sour, dusty and yeasty. Overrated.

Dark brown color, brown head. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malt, some hop, licorice. Bitter taste, very malty, bit spicy. Weird balance, like most of the Fantome beers. There is a certain degree of quality in its beers, but still most of them are slightly overrated IMO.

Enjoyed this with the men folk on Christmas Day. It had been sitting in my garage for awhile so I figured this was as good a time as any to pop it open. After the pour, you could tell there were a million things going on with this one. I didn’t get much tartness in the taste as other reviewers, but it was there. A very good sample I’d say. It didn’t last long. Very enjoyable!
