Commercial Description:
Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody's guess...the Fantôme confounds once again.

Bottle. Very dark brown beer with a thin beige head. Swet malt and spice aroma. Flavor starts out as sour, but after the first few sips, tones down a bit and you can taste a bit of sweetness and some spices and a bit of red stone fruit (plum, sour cherry). Nice and refreshing, hides alcohol well.

Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Hogtown Harry - courtesy of a trade I did with Boutip (thanks!). Dark brown, foamy tan head. Amazing unique aroma - black pepper, berries, perfume. That didn’t do it justice, but the aroma confounded and amazed around the table. Initial sour taste, with more pepper on the roof of your mouth. Finish gives way to an underlying sweetness. Medium mouthfeel. No hint of the alcohol. Not sure I could drink a lot of this, but this was really unique and a nice treat.

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - courtesy of tupalev from boutip. Poured murky deep brown with a big lasting white head, lots of big black floaties in evidence. Aroma hugely of black pepper, hessian, sawdust, malt and very resiny yeast. Taste is very, very sour, but the sourness is almost totally overpowered by wave after wave of black and white pepper - there’s also malt here, and pine cone resin - weird, but moreish. Mouthfeel is very acidic, and the sourness eventually wins out over the pepper, decent bodied and stronly alcoholic by the end. I liked it - different, but enjoyable.

pours a hazy bordeaux-brown colour with a little but regular foam; solid but subtle spicy aroma (nutmeg, cloves?) with some fruity notes in the background (pear and apple); some sweetness with a touch of finishing sourness; the malt body stays surprisingly thin for a beer with 8% alcohol and particularly fails on the end; the spicyness and the fruits take control again in a long pleasant finish - unusual and hard to rate, as always by this brewery

i don’t even know how to describe this one. Gigantic head, I can tell you that. Slightly malty aroma. Spicy Spicy Spicy. SPicyness follows into the aftertaste and deep into your throat. Awsome beer!

dark red tinted brown. thick tan head that clings. marshmallow aroma with some peanut butter. flavor is tea oak peanuts and chocolate. the chocolate emerges more as it warms fruity finish of chocolate and bricks, acme bricks. i didn’t see the acme name, so it might not be acme bricks but i’ll take my chances.

Bottle. Dark brown body with a half inch dense beige head. Nose-wood, dry chocolate, basil. Taste-chocolate, alcohol, some vegetal undertones, bourbon, oak, light butter, grape. Excellent marriage of charred oak, coffee, and herbs. A wonderful beer.

750 ml bottle shared with jerc. Hazy brown colour with a mostly lasting tan head. Lightly lactic, chocolate, and orange aromas with nutty and dusty notes. Acidic, light chocolate, lightly nutty flavours. Light bodied, fizzy mouthfeel. Imperial Flemish Nut Brown Ale? Thanks Boutip!
