SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Sep 4, 2005 Bomber from joshuab. Pours dark brown w/ very large foamy tan head. nose is yeasty, ol dbox smelling. kinda smells like an attic or maybe a wet, moldy basement. Taste is bubbly, light fruitiness, maybe some sort of berry? finishes light and fizzy. haddon90 (1034), Alexandria, Virginia, USA Sep 3, 2005 Thanks Jeremy for letting me try this! Reddish, mahagony pour. Decent, fading head on this one. Sweet aroma, with a hint of malt and spices. Nice taste, with an assortment of spices and some sweetness. Definitely an interesting flavor for this beer. pineypower (1076), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Sep 1, 2005 Have no idea how the brewery’s description fits this beer, none the less its a very interesting solid brew. Poured out a nice reddish tinged dark brown with a good amount of carbonation that made for a fading head. The aroma is very interesting sweet and intriguing. The taste is also extremely interesting, with some really strange spices, maybe nutmeg and possibly some bittersweet chocolate. I liked it though, got such a high rating for uniquness, not necessairly because its a true "3.9" beer Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2005 I was surprized to read that this ale had its roots as a "Belgian Irish-style stout." Dany Prignon has strayed far from those beginnings, and thank goodness for that, or we’d be missing out on a great treat. It pours a slightly hazy brown color with a foamy, creamy tan head. The interesting aroma is a sour malt, anise, yeast, ginseng, and Eris-knows-what spices blended into the true barnyard, funky strangeness usually associated with Fantôme’s Saisons. It’s pungent and spicily hot in the mouth. The taste is a blending of the flavors noted in the aroma, along with alcohol and mayhaps some hop bitterness and even more strange spices and... I’m not really sure what’s here. But it’s no Irish stout, praise be!

SG (456), San Clemente, California, USA Aug 29, 2005 A brownish/red hue with nice lacing. It smells like a mix between sun-tan lotion and a swamp. There is definitely a "ghostly" taste about this beer that I can’t put my finger on. There is a very strange spice or root in here not to my liking. A nice try. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Aug 29, 2005 This brown ale poured with a generous tan head, eliciting a spicy malt aroma. The flavor was very unusual - sour, as if wild yeast had been employed, with a musty, slightly bitter finish and a carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor was initially thin, but became more spicy and complex as it warmed. A strange brew, but somewhat enjoyable. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Aug 27, 2005 (Bottled, 0.75l) Very dark brown with a medium, beige head. Dry-sourish-malty, ashy, acidic and roasty aroma. The yeasty part has also licorice. Burned-malty, very ashy and dryish flavor with marygold and dandelion. Peppery spiciness and lots of bitter hops in the finish. Long, peppery aftertaste; like after eating a pepper-steak. Medium-bodied, ashy and bitter palate with foamy and high carbonation. Yeast softens the palate a bit. Not among the best Fantômes, IMO - quite thin and carbonated, as well as acidic, ashy and burned. Not enough body, and too strong color malt and spice feel. zug4abby (287), San Diego, California, USA Aug 24, 2005 Poura a deep red/burnt color with a decent head and lots of lacing. Almost chocolate like aroma with strong spices and a slight sourness. The flavor is sweet with a nice bite and a hint of mustiness. I enjoyed the dryness of the beer in combination with the fruity/spice like bite.
