Commercial Description:
Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody's guess...the Fantôme confounds once again.

An exceptional beverage, bringing the best of a healthy herbal drink and a beer together. Sarsapillira (root beer), cinammon, blackstrap molasses, smooth. honey and kitchen spice aroma. Thanks Clarkvv. Wonderful with a long meal of every dishes, as every sip then sends a different taste signal to the brain. One of few beers that is delightful palate cleaner after fish.

Bottle. Pineappley, spicy banana yeast aroma with slight sweet notes as well. There are also sour notes with a touch of roastiness in this. Intriguing aroma for sure. Opaque dark brown with a large frothy head. Start is mildly vinous and acidic. Turns slightly sweet with a bit of noticeable alcohol in the middle. Roasty coffee notes to finish. Very dry finish. Flavor is a bit boring compared to the aroma. Nevertheless, this is a unique, borderline bizarre beer.

Sample courtesy of Wohlfs. Pours yellow with orange tints. Aroma has that sour "foot" smell to it. Flavor very unique, as always, sour with that strange yeast character. Just can’t pinpoint anything. Decent overall.

Bottle 750ml. Appearance: Heavy haze , brown fill with off tan creamy hue head.3+ Aroma: Brown malt , caramel , coco mixture of hops , golden malts with slight touch of funk. 7+. Flavour/Palate: Metallic, raw, mineral with thin malt base. Flat, flavour was empty shell of aroma. Disappointing.

Bottle. Deep brown colored. Funked out Fantome aroma’s and flavors. To think this is the evolution/devolution of a stout is interesting. Very nice and well done.

Clouded mahogany hue, decent head formation. Yeasty, leathery aroma, slightly winey/vinegary with cherry. Sweet fruity cherry palate, slightly jammy blackcurrant notes, strong spice character nutmeg and cocoa pwdeer, and well empahsised sourness towards the end. Seemed like something of a train wreck at first, trying to do too much, but there’s a wineiness that seems to save things.

bottle, thanks to eyedrinkale or wohlfs (can’t remember who; both were there, and very generous!) salty and cinnamon/spice aroma--a belgian porter perhaps? spicy coriander, rusty dusty dry flavor. very clean and dry with an evaporative finish. an intriguing beer for sure....
