Spicy, malty, kind of funky along with some darker fruits: grapes and cherries. Mildly tart, finishes dry. Very interesting and I dug it quite a bit. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 30, 2005 trappist / immediately when i pop the cork i can smell pineapple, sugary pears, and wheat. the pour sounds like cola, but what’s left is a thick and dark brown body with no highlight. the head is super tight, big, and sparkly; it diminishes slowly in a rocky, soapy fashion. mmm. good beer. this reminds me of a brown, but with a belgian twist--it’s from belgium, durr! think brown, but with elements of age and a little bit of a geuze. in time, the aroma and flavor becomes more and more complex, warmer, but still enjoyable. UPDATE: and it’s warm... it’s more like a sugary, woody geuze/brown. Hairofthedog (419), San Diego, California, USA
