Commercial Description:
Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody's guess...the Fantôme confounds once again.

Hazy deep brown coloured body with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Aroma of sour fruit, malt, chocolate, tart raisins and some funky must. Medium-bodied; Full chocolate taste with hardly andy fruit at all-odd combination! Aftertaste shows liquorice, anise, malt and chocolate. Overall, wierd but great to try! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 02-August-2005.

750ml Bottle: Complex, tart, funky aroma of tart fruit, funk, spices, urine, sweaty locker room, acid, oregano, dark fruits, and citrus. Aroma makes my mouth water. Poured dirty, muddy brown in color with a small, fizzy, tan head that disappeared immediately. Opaque. Lightly sparkling. Complex flavor is heavily tart and lightly sweet. Tastes of tart fruit, malts, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, wood, tobacco, slight smoke, dark ripe fruits, and sour mix. Medium body. Tingly texture becomes dry. Lively carbonation.

Brewed in Belgium.... Pours a chestnut brown color with a small off white head. Aroma of grapes, prunes, yeast, and sour cherries. Tastes has a musty funkiness with raspberries, grapes, and pepper spices. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing and finishes on the dry side. I was not sure what to expect this time from the Fantome. But i must say it was very enjoyable.

750ml bottle from South Bay Drug. Pours a murky swamp water brown with a big fizzy off white head. Farmhouse funk with some aged citrus peel on the nose. Flavor was funky with some fruit and acidity.

750ml @ Beachwood BBQ shared with BMan113VR, m4rest88, and my girlfriend. Pours copper with a tan head. Nose is rich, ruddy, and full of citrus. Taste is citrussy, slightly spiced, and a bit tart, overall this quite tasty, slightly strong, a bit boozy, but overall damn tasty.

Bottle thanks to WeeHeavySD at Beachwood BBQ. Pours with a light brown head and a hazy hazlenut body with good lacing. Aroma is interesting, a bit metallic with notes of wine, pepper, sour, citrus and some berry jam and a touch of toffee malt. Taste is deeply malty with some jam, light sour and barnyard with a touch of citrus and currant. Lightly bubbley and dryish mouthfeel.

Pours with a dark amber hue with a light brown head that is mostly diminishing. Aroma is of dark fruits - mainly prunes and dates, mixed with some yeast, spices, and lots of citrus. Beer has a sweet, sour beginning, with a flat middle, followed by a jammy, and sour ending. Syrupy texture with very light carbonation. A very good brew indeed!
