Commercial Description:
Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody's guess...the Fantôme confounds once again.

Pours a darker copper color with a tan head. Aroma is tart and sweet with some funk, dark fruits, a hint of lemon, and spices. The wild flavors are more prominent on the flavor. Flavor is what I expected from the aroma. Not one of my favorite of the Fantome brews but still pretty good.

Slightly tart aroma, with an underlying sweetness. Pours a clear reddish amber, with a fluffy tan head. Flavor is a bit of funk and tart, with a touch of sweetness lurking in the background. The mouthfeel is the most unusual thing about this beer, for all of the visible carbonation and big fluffy head, it’s slick and full in the mouth. Overall, I went into this not knowing exactly what I was getting into, I love sours, saw it described as a stout, and decided to try it. I have no idea what classification I’d put it into, but it’s tart and tasty.

Poured into a snifter. Dark brown color with a mocha head that’s on the modest side considering the force of the pour. Aroma is very strange: lemon, leather, and some kind of spiciness do not exactly scream BSDA. Flavor is strong on menthol/lemongrass with an even white pepper note that dominates the finish. Musty and earthy, at times vegetal and at times fruity. Mouthfeel is a little thin and a little undercarbonated. Totally unique but kind of weird and I’m not sure I like the combination of flavor notes.

Pours a ruddy looking dark amber to cola brown color. A foamy, light tan head settles quickly to a swirly film, soapy lacing mostly returning to the body. The nose is quite a bit more tart than expected, with some notes of orange peel and sour, funky, minty yeast showing atop a mostly grainy, dark malt billing. Flavors are more of the same, with a drying, lightly sweet wheat and grain background countering the spicy-tart citrus and dark fruity notes. Medium bodied and moderately carbonated, going down smooth and finishing clean and minty. Refreshing, even at 8% ABV. This is a strange animal, and a difficult one to describe, but it is very good if you’re into off-the-wall things.

750ml bottle, corked and capped. Pours a hazy reddish amber with sediment. The head is bubbly, white and creamy and retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is grainy malts, funky yeast and acidic and tart fruits and some band-aid. Cinnamon comes out as it warms.

The flavor is some sweet fruits, and spicy funky yeast followed by a sharp tongue biting tartness and chocolate. It’s pretty acidic and dry. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with creamy carbonation.

Overall, an interesting beer.I’m not sure what to make of it, but would try it again.

Fig in color with a light mocha colored head. Particles noticeable. Swamp mud aroma. Slightly tart with a breading taste.

[Bottle] Pours hazy brownish-amber with a small beige head. Aroma very grainy malt with some funk and spice also mixed in. Taste is slightly tart, with a lot of grain once again, and popcorn with a hint of onion after that. Medium-thin mouthfeel with a long finish. I had this at a tasting, so I will try to get a re-rate in at some point, but from what I had, it seemed like a mess, and overall it really did not work for me.

0,75 l bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. JN 22/08.

App.: Very deep cola, with a minute tan head. Aroma: Tangy mincemeat – a blend of raisins, molasses, warm spices, herbal notes and light organic acids; lightly vinous, grapes, and cherries. Palate: Medium-ish body, almost no carbonation. Flav.: Cola herbals, light malt flavours, lightly vinous’ quite sour, somewhat bitter with light raisins and molasses malts on the aftertaste.

The nose and mouth don’t match in my opinion. An interesting brew that is a bit too sour for my palate.
