COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once described as a Belgian Irish-style stout, Black Ghost has undergone lots of changes over the years. It now bears no resemblance whatsoever to a stout, and brewer Dany Prignon has begun adding spices to the beer. What they are is anybody's guess...the Fantôme confounds once again.

Brown, muddy, unfiltered with a huge lively and foamy head. Nose of sandlewood, firewood, light spices, and over-ripened cherries. Hints of sourness and sharp acidity in first few sips, peppery and very soft, thin, lively in the mouth. Woody throughout, only slightly sour, refreshing, a really fun beer.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of spices, with some additional dark fruit notes and some strong Belgian yeast. The flavor is very complex. I get some light tartness and funk from the Belgian yeast, but I also get some spices, caramel malt, orange and apple notes. A slightly funky, spicy and fruit saison that works very well together. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

bottle poured into tulip glass. La Cave du Vin in Cleveland had this classifyed as a saison. a: deep amber/blackish color, slight head that reduces to light lacing. Minimal carbonation. s: very spicy aroma, a hint of roasted malt t: i have never had a beer like this. Very interesting taste. Black Licorice flavor dominated the mouth with spicyness adding complexity. Very nice. Alchohol is slightly noticable, but provides a nice warming sensation m&d: for an 8% ABV brew, it is very drinkable. Medium to light bodied,

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2012 Bottle; Pour is murky golden / amber with a modest fine bubbled khaki head in this tulip; spotty lacing is present, retention works well here. The nose is.....muted farmhouse notes and.? I don’t know what the hell is going on here - but it’s like you’re taking every good quality of Fantome and fucking it up? Dry, muted, fruity, spicy... and annoying. Easily the worst Fantome I’ve had so far

Bottled. WOW a damn good beer. Dark brown pour with Aromas of tart and citrus fuir, Belgian spices, chocolate, caramel and nut. The flavor matches the aroma with a big bready / spice muthfeel.

750ml bottle shared by Sylvain. Bottle is about 3-4 years old.
Appearance : Dark amber with small head.
Aroma : Lots of herbs with dust. Woody and vinous.
Taste : Lots of herbs with some oxidation. dust and caramel. Finish dusty with herbs. Quite woody and a bit vinous.
Overall : Very weird again. Not as good as Autumn we just had. Still interesting.

75cl traded bottle. I’m thinking white pepper. There was a hint of sourness in the aroma that seemed promising but it seems overpowered by spice in the flavor. A little thin overall. Unique I suppose.

750ml bottle. light brown with tan head. Slightly sour, spices, grass, white sugar. Well carbonated, medium bodied, smooth, farmhouse with slight funk, bit of sweetness, nice lingering fresh finish.

Sampled at Stuffed Sandwich years ago, tick from notes. Pours dark brown, muddy (as usual), with beige head that lasts a while. Aroma is roasty and slightly acidic and fruity and of course yeasty. Flavor is also roasty but not overly so, also lots of dark fruits and a fair amount of caramel. One of the more interesting Fantomes I’ve had.

750mL. The pour is a clear amber with a giant, yellow head with big, sheety, thick lace. Gobs of lace. The nose fresh citrus, lemon, and flowers with cinnamon apples. Taste is peppery, moldy, funky, lemon. Moves to bitter herbals, spicy rye malt, brown sugar. Tart, nutty bitter. Very odd combo as always with Fantome. Thinner palate. Definitely no resemblance whatsoever to a stout ;)

Bottle courtesy of GT2, thank you sir! Hazy brown color, medium tan head. Aroma of raspberries, cinnamon, nutmeg. Taste is like spiced raspberry soda with hops added. Really interesting. Very tasty.
