Interesting! First time I have tried something that wasn’t on rate beer already. My supplier Dave recommended I tried this because he hadn’t yet, and he had several in stock, so here goes! Amazing smell as the cap is taken off and the cork pulled. Rich active spice, coriander, pumpkin, apricot and bonfire smoke! Pours apricot/cloudy apple juice colour, a head does form (see pic) but quickly dissapears. No lace on glass at all, infact doesn’t stick to the glass in any way, looks like I hadn’t drunk of the glass at all when I was done! Plenty of sediment in bottom of bottle, will try not to distrurb that as I get further down the bottle. Flavour (at around 12’C) is very different, smoky alcoholic Belgian woody character, but with no hop character that I can find. No one flavour dominates, it is well balanced, but odd. You can’t put your finger on it, maybe it’s the lack of hops that’s weird, but you gotta keep sipping to find it. It does taste higher than 8% and as it was bottled in August and I am drinkin it 2nd November maybe it is too young yet, will maybe stash another bottle and try in a year or so. Will leave it a while and try colder anyways, but I like to try beers warmer as you get so much more character though it having more energy.

Hazy amber beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and a little soft. Very fine carbonation. Smooth and very sweet malts, little cream. Trace of smoke. A skewed funky fruitiness on the back end before a smooth creamy finish. Odd but not offensive.

An odd duck, somewhere between a BSA and a saison. Earthy with some farm character but also some alcohol and some fruit and yeast zestiness like a strong Belgian. Overpriced, but pretty nice.

Tasted at the Triple Rock Sour and Barrel Aged Fest on 2/10/2013. This saison pours a cloudy orange gold color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, orange and peaches. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of orange and peach flavors. Hops are herbal and earthy, Nice balance. Good carbonation. A touch sweet and citrusy, sort of orange juice like. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

Bottle from Etre Gourmet, bought a couple of years ago. Hazy orange with a huge white head. Aroma and taste of funk, grapefruit, grass, yeast and fruit. Fairly light and with a medium bitterness.

@ Gyllenbock 14-12-13: doften är kryddig och brettig. Smaken är mycket sträv. Hö, brett, stall ... Känns som en mögelost. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

Bottle: Newer batch. Thanks, Jeff. Cloudy & hazy sunburst color with a foamy, bubbly beige film & collar across the top. Big cork funk in the aroma with sweet undertones of orange creamsicle & fresh wild strawberries. Candied, just a bit. Farmhouse dampness, musty hay, & some mild woodiness backing it all up. Spicier flavor... Almost getting notes of clove or cardamom with some zesty, potent Belgian yeast. Mild white pepper, even. Lots of woody notes & farmhouse funk, especially towards the latter half. Faint orange, semisweet caramel malt, musky wormwood, & a slightly bitter, earthy finish. Somewhat creamy body with a tight carbonation snap. Really nice, kind of like a more spiced & sweetened up version of the OG Saison.

Bottle: The aroma consists of funky herbal notes, light caramel, and a touch of apple. It pours hazy dark golden-orange with a small white head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a very fine ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of light caramel and fruit. The finish light apple with some funky herbal/floral notes and a hint of lemon peel. It’s light bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

Corked and capped 750 from Shenanigans, Lexington, opened Halloween 2014. Mild gusher. Pours a hazy orange color with a large foamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, buttery malts, funk. The taste is caramel, marzipan, citrus, maple, mild funk. Medium bodied, low carbonation, mild lingering spice. Nice beer, and very glad to try another one from Fantome. It’s been too long!

750ml bottle 11/11/14 (Payless Liquors #9-Indy)-40° in Trappist Glass-Pours a hazy golden with a big loose white head. Aroma of yeast, citrus, and funk. Taste of yeast, citrus, sour, and funk. This light to medium bodied brew has a lot going on but still tasty.

bartlebier (2559) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - NOV 9, 2014
75cl bottle, lot 08-2012, bb end 2015. Cellared for 1,5yrs, unearthed post-Halloween moussaka bash. Dirty orange brackpour. Damp earth, the sweet and sour miasma of fallen orchard fruit, slowly decaying mirabelle with its caramel cognac edge. Taste: not sure if pumpkin was used here, but if it was, the hokkaido has fermented like a ripe pear. Bodacious mid of cognac and perry/pear cider and indefined spice. An organic, vital tartness lurking underneath. Enticingly undefined, organic, strange, up to Fantôme par.
