Commercial Description:
With joy and a little bit of mischief, Fantôme brewer Dany Prignon dedicates this very bitter beer to all of the many varieties of brise-bonbons - literally, ball-breakers - in the world. Specifically, this beer is meant for wise-guys, braggarts, pains-in-the-ass, muck-rakers, troublemakers, know-it-alls, stuffed-shirts, blow-hards and bores, as well as nut-cracking, wind-bag, prattling-on, self-appointed experts on everything, and nose-in-the-air snobs, convinced they can do anything better than you. Dany intended to make a beer too bitter for a normal person to enjoy. The problem is, everyone loves it! Guess we're all just a bunch of brise-bonbons sometimes...

Good, if not their best. Aroma has mild hops, wild flowers, and light herbs. Flavor is surprisingly complex. It is a little sour, there is dandelion, light spices. it is fairly bitter, but not from hops. More of an herbal bitterness that to anyone who enjoys a well hopped ipa isn’t really all that bitter.

Cloudy yellow color with no head. Very musty hay aroma, almost skunked. Strong wheat and spice flavor with a raging yeasty finish. At times I would think this was past its prime and skunked, others it seemed like a great Saison.

Bottled sample via Boutip. Golden in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas of herbs, trees, Belgian funk, and lemons. Very woody and tannic in the mouth. Secondary notes of spice (especially black pepper), citrus fruits, and dried leaves. Super dry and quite bitter. A tad unbalanced, even by Fantome standards.

Courtesy of Blake at DL day 06’. Golden, somewhat hazy, white head fades to film rather quickly. Aroma is all over the place. Huge floral up front, lemon tart, grass, slight euro-skunk background. Flavor very yeasty, dominated by the same floral and grass character as aroma. Slight skunk in the finish. Finishes very dry.

Bottle from D’s. Apparently the first Fantome beer I’ve thought worthy of rating. Hazy golden body with nice foamy white head. Aroma of bananas, cloves, lemon zest and spices. Despite the description I didn’t find it all that bitter. Flavor was similar to the aroma but a bit stronger on the spiciness and some bitterness in the finish.

Pours a hazy golden color with a white head. Aroma is of citrus, lemon, yeast, and spices. Flavor starts off with the citrus, lemon, and sweet malts that finishes with the yeast and spices and a little bit of bitterness on the finish, especially for a belgian brew. A complex brew that I would hope to enjoy again.

Bottle. Pours a deep hazy orange body with huge head, forms a similar look to houblon. Complex Aroma! Peppery, grassy, light melon, funk, spices, herby, floral like tones and light citrus.

Flavor is slightly sweet, light lemon and orange taste, peppery spices, cucumber, yeasty.

Damn good! Very enjoyable. Probably the most complex beer I’ve had in awhile.

0,75 l bottle shared with Lubiere (merci!), served cool in a goblet. MA26/07.

App.: Very cloudy orange-amber, small orange-white head with orange flecks, lots of white yeast flakes in the beer. Aroma: Barnyard, lemons, sourness, bitter green herbs, flowery-perfume, rubber (oh boy). Palate: Medium body and carbonation, some effervescence. Flav.: Good LORD. Rubber, some light coconut and apple, pepper and musty-dust on swallowing; fairly bracing bitterness and light tartness.

Consider my balls broken. This was a drain pour.
