Commercial Description:
With joy and a little bit of mischief, Fantôme brewer Dany Prignon dedicates this very bitter beer to all of the many varieties of brise-bonbons - literally, ball-breakers - in the world. Specifically, this beer is meant for wise-guys, braggarts, pains-in-the-ass, muck-rakers, troublemakers, know-it-alls, stuffed-shirts, blow-hards and bores, as well as nut-cracking, wind-bag, prattling-on, self-appointed experts on everything, and nose-in-the-air snobs, convinced they can do anything better than you. Dany intended to make a beer too bitter for a normal person to enjoy. The problem is, everyone loves it! Guess we're all just a bunch of brise-bonbons sometimes...

(750ml bottle) Particulate-filled, cloudy amber body with white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is not very strong, medium sweet, herbal/grassy, banana, melon, yeast/cheese, light dusky. Taste is medium sweet, melon, herbal, cream, light banana. Creamy medium body with alcohol fairly well hidden.

Back to crazy. Cloudy orange body with a large head. Aroma is a mess with notes of lighter fruits, overripened grapefruity hops, smoke from rotton wood, peppers and light spices. The flavor is the same, and I have no idea how this qualifies as a saison but whatever. The smoke flavor I am getting is almost a flat or bad one, so I used a rotton wood reference. It’s definitely not hickory roasted smoke or something that sounds equally attractive. The grapefruity hops came off in a similar way. Whether this beer was sitting for too long or this was intended, I have no idea... it was certainly interesting.

6th Dutch Ratebeer Gathering. Aroma is fruity, lactic, yeasty. Very bitter flavour. A lot hoppy taste too, too much spices. Too bitter.

Very deep, dark brown in appearance. If you did a blind taste test between this & any other English bitter, you’d be hard-pressed to tell that this was indeed a Belgian brew. Very (extremely?) different from any other Belgian beer I’ve tasted. It was a big surprise, & I’d definitely recommend it.

6th Dutch Ratebeer Gathering. Aroma is lactic, hoppy and floral. Cloudy, orange coloured with a medium head. Taste is very weird. Sourish, flowery, yeasty, lactic, quite hopbitter, spicy. What a bunch of tast together, i agree with the bierkoning; over the top.

6th DRG. Cloudy orange golden color, medium head. Yeasty and bit fruity aroma, hop. Saison-like taste, very bitter though.

Spicy aroma, but it looks like this beer has been brewed next to a manure heap. Very bitter and spicy flavor (sweet wood, pepper, woody), in fact too spicy. Hopflavors which I like in a good beer have been almost totally destroyed. Somewhat lactic, cheesy, some brett?? Totally over the top.

Bottled, 6th DRG. Barnyard aroma with strong hops, grass and herbs. Cloudy, orange/amber color, off-white head, good lace. Light sweet, malty, lots and lots of hops, too much actually, complex, very bitter and dry.
