"With joy and a little bit of mischief, Fantôme brewer Dany Prignon dedicates this very bitter beer to all of the many varieties of brise-bonbons - literally, ball-breakers - in the world. Specifically, this beer is meant for wise-guys, braggarts, pains-in-the-ass, muck-rakers, troublemakers, know-it-alls, stuffed-shirts, blow-hards and bores, as well as nut-cracking, wind-bag, prattling-on, self-appointed experts on everything, and nose-in-the-air snobs, convinced they can do anything better than you. Dany intended to make a beer too bitter for a normal person to enjoy. The problem is, everyone loves it! Guess we’re all just a bunch of brise-bonbons sometimes..." - Shelton Brothers

Speciell på många sätt. Dofta ladugård och gödsel. Syrlig smak med eftersmak av hö, blött gräs, vått trä och svettig gymnastiksal. Annorlunda är bara förnamnet.

750ml bottle, pours orangey brown with plenty of haze, quite a bit of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Aroma is full, bready malt, doughy citrus, blend of yeasts, spicy, herbal, coriander, a bit of fruity tang and zest, Hoppy finish but not too bitter. Carbonation average. Has that farmhouse feel in droves. Another good one.

Pours a rich golden color with three fingers of foamy suds. Nose has some rustic grain, straw, unripe pear, floral honey and a touch of herbal mint. The palate follows the nose with some doughy malt, floral grass, citrus pith, some round fruit flesh and honey sweetness balances out the bitterness on the finish. Focused and delicious !

Bottle 75 cl. Pours unclear golden in color with a creamy whitish head. Starts with quite the funky stable notes in aroma, some lemony notes are present as well. A bit on the tart side. There’s some herbal bitterness in taste along with the notes of citrus and peppery spicyness. Quite dry mouthfeel too. Bitter and slightly biting spicyness in finish and it even feels that there’s some sweeter fruity notes lingering beneath towards the end. Overall this felt like a very tasty and refreshing brew.

Hazy dark yellow colour. Aroma has grass, hay, pear, hop. Flavour is sweet, sour and bitter. Pear drops giving tartness, a touch of banana sweetness in the finish and a generally dry hoppy background throughout.

Bottle shared by Eric, pours hazy pink, not much head or lace. Aromas of horseradish, light nail polish, dust, and funk. Taste is that vintage wawa peach tea. Pretty solid.

Bottle 750ml. Pours hazy golden with medium white head. Good lacing. Aroma is of skunk, alcohol, sugar, dusty barn, stale hay. Taste is of sugar, skunk, menthol, old barn, stale hay, bitterness. Palate: Poor balance. Sweet. Sticky. Overall: Sunky, sweet, and hardly drinkable. Not too good.

Pours a hazy golden with a small white head with low retention. Nose is skunked (damn) and also carries some cereal/grainy aromas. Taste is also skunky... But primarily it is sweet and boozy, lightly bitter. This isn’t what I look for in a saison... Body is medium, mouthfeel almost sticky. Blah, underwhelmed. High gravity farmhouse? Not a fan.

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by mathieuc, thanks! Hazy golden with a small persistent white head and some lacing. Aroma is skunky with mint, pepper, Saison yeast and light lemony presence. Taste is also skunky with mint, spices (including peppery notes), citrus, alcohol and herbal presence. Medium body. Good carbonation. Spicy finish. Damn green bottles, without the skunk, it could be a pretty good Saison.

750 from Yamaichi. Rich, fragrant saison nose with biscuity pale malts, lemon, light spiciness. Clean and fresh. Clear golden with a low, fine head. Very lemony, hoppy flavor, light yeasty spiciness, tingly peppery, with solid but not heavy malts, bread, very nicely bitter finish. Somewhat oily, soapy palate, but perfect weight. Great balance. Very nice stuff. Quite convincing. A good example of Fantome at its best.

Bottle purchased at Bottles and Cans on Lincoln. Pours a cloudy tangerine color with a fingers worth of off-white head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Fantastic nose on this, it’s a nice mix of belgian and saison yeast. Nice and dry and full of fruity esters, specifically banana. There is also a nice herbal quality to it. A lot of the same themes in the flavor. Earthy and herbal with a slight kiss during finish.of belgian yeast on the finish. Moderate mouthfeel that is crisp and clean and has a enduring finish. Great beer, one of my favorites from Fantome so far.
