Light unclear medium orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light hoppy, orange shell, light chocolate notes, moderate yeasty, acidic, pepper. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet sweet and light to moderate acidic with a average to long duration. Body is light to medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (160208) oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Feb 8, 2008 Bottled. Reddish brown colour with a small white head. Aroma is very fruity with some slight acidic notes. Also a bunch of barnyard, earth and spices. Flavour is very sour fruits with some rather acidic notes also. Some spices, earth and grass also. I don’t find any chocolate in this one, but oh well, it’s twisted in a Fantomeian way. FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland Feb 6, 2008 750ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki, Belgian Beer Week 2008)
Marmalade colour, a touch hazy, tiny head. Orange aroma, and "refreshers" sweets too (the UK ones), quite tangy. Taste is denser and darker - a subtle hint of cocoa, powder, not chocolate itself - and no hint of chilli, and with a decent malty body. Decent resiny bitter finish. The write-up on the label is so stupid I want to mark them down for it, but it’s obviously aimed at the US market. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Feb 4, 2008 (Bottled, 0.75l) Very hazy darkish amber with a small, tanned head. Typical yeasty Fantome aroma (quite mild, though) with black pepper and faint chocolate hints. The flavor is also mostly black pepper, with the chocolate only coming out in the finish - and a tiny-weeny hint of chilli in the aftertaste. Medium-bodied, slightly foamy-carbonated palate. Not among the best from this brewery, and completely misses the chocolate. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 2, 2008 Bottle: Pours a cloudy amber color with an off white head. Aroma, spices, some cocoa, fruity notes. Flavor, some dry yeasty notes, cocoa powder, fruity esters in the background, a touch of heat from the peppers can be felt on the back end. Nothing intense, just a reminder. Tart and dry on the finish. Very tasty. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 2, 2008 Served on-tap at Spuyten Duyvil.
Pours clouded gold. Nice crème head. Flavor is much more chocolate influenced than I remember the bottle being. Still is not a lot, but is slightly noticeable. What’s also noticeable is a spicy kick. I can only assume the chili peppers contribute to this. Feel has a thick carbonation and a good liquid feel. Very drinkable, yet again. It does seem a little more robust and edgier than when I had it on the bottle, but still very good all the same, though for different reasons. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Feb 1, 2008 Pours a cloudy orange with big carbonation and spotty head. Aroma of fruit, sweet tarts, cocoa, chili peppars and an unmistakable dryness. Flavor is tart and spicy, the perfect addition of what would not normally considered an ingredient for beer. Medium body. Long tart and dry finish. This is why I am growing to love Fantome beers!
