A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Bottle. Cloudy light orange with an initially dense bubbly white head, quickly fading. Aroma chocolate, banana, caramel, oaky, some pine. Taste is of wheat, oats, chocolate, pepper, subtle hints of the chili powder. Light oily mouthfeel, soft to medium carbonation. Really unusual, enjoyed this a lot.

Drank during the tasting 20-11. Sour is not really my thing, but not a bad beer. Nice soft chocolate and good body.

*Old rating. Best before June 12. Lecker!

Lightly hazed copper pour with no head. Aroma is apple juice, faint chili, and saison yeast. Taste is apple juice, earth, toffee, subtle chili, and some funk. Didn’t detect any cocoa and chili was very faint. No carbonation. Dry finish.

Bottle. Hazy brownish colour. Fairly malty aroma with a bit of vegetable. Lemon flavour, yeast. Sweet. Little cocoa or chilli. A miss.
