hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Mar 7, 2007 Bottle... Murky amber ale with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Musty, subtle cocoa and cayenne nose. Lightly sweet chocolate flavor with moderate bitterness outshone by medium tartness. Surprisingly, light to medium-bodied and watery with gentle carbonation. Tart, subtle chocolate finish. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Mar 5, 2007 Pours a yeasty orange brown.....Get’s cloudier the later it get’s like a true Belgian summer. Nose hits of floral yeast, and some astringent qualities. Lot’s of barnyard notations about this. Tough to pick out the coca and chili peppers but one is reminded of hachez with green peppers and 88% coca. Minus the coca...Bitterness is a yes. I went through the entire bomber rather easily and would love to session all the fantomes stuff. Remember kids, this aint no DR Congo phantom shite. consumed while kicking the oppositions ass in FIFA 2006. GO GUNneRS! gunnfryd (3539), Kristiansand, Norway Feb 27, 2007 Bottle. 750 ml. Orange/ golden colour witha beige head. Aroma is yeast, fruit, chocolate. Flavour is yeast, dry, fruit, hint of cacao, spices. Interesting beer. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Feb 19, 2007 Bottled, 75cl corked. Orange-golden, almost brown beer, unclear, with a bubbly beige head. A bit weak aroma with some vomit-notes in the background. Else it has some sourness and yeast, and toffee. C’mon, give me some cocoa and chili. The flavor has some sourness and yeast as well, in addition to wheat and a spicy touch. There’s some spicy sting in the finish, as well as cocoa-hints and some spices. The beer could use more body and the cocoa and chili should be more evident. (070119) Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 17, 2007 Another masterful crafted beer from this brewery. I did not know there were chile peppers until after. It was like a saison with chocolate, with carob. I guess the bit of acidity on the palate was the chile peppers, and knowing it would have left me pondering it, sipping it, enjoying it more. Still, they are mystery brewers and it was a bit drying yet greatly satisfying. Still needed lots of good red wine after to get my palate to neutral. A bit brown on beige colour. Funky yeasty aroma.
ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Feb 13, 2007 Bottle. Pours a hazy brown rust color, with a smallish off white head. Aroma is funky malt, yeast, and sour. Flavor is tart, malt, yeast, slight spice. Palate is medium-light, moderate carbonation, tart finish. I enjoyed the beer, but perhaps my palate is not sensitive enough to pick up the subtleties. Beer2000 (1775), Kristiansand, Norway Feb 13, 2007 750 ml bottle. Hazy peach colored body with a white head. Quite moderate malt aroma, no chocolate. Flavor is less sweet than expected for a beer that has anything with chocolate to do, actually the only chocolate here is in the name. Reading the small text on the label actually explain this, this is beer with cocoa powder and chili pepper. The flavor is rather fresh, with some acidity and a faint chilli flavor in the background. Not bad at all, the cocoa make most of the bitterness. An interesting taste and not unpleasant at all. tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 5, 2007 Hazy orangish color - aroma of dried fruit and some yeast. Flavor is fairly tart, slightly acidic with some spiciness, tart citrus and slight hop bite. Finish lingers somewhat. Didn’t get any cocoa or pepper, just a tease of spiciness.
