redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2006 Sweet, floral aroma, with malt. Pours a cloudy brown. Sour, yeasty, unsweetend bakers chocolate, citrus. I get a hint of pepper in the very back. I love fantome! SSSteve (2045), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 20, 2006 citrus, yeast, red pepper and flower aroma. barely noticeable cocoa. hazy red orange color with a large creamy off-white head. flavor is lightly tangy with some spicy peppers but i really don’t notice the cocoa. why not add more?? chili pepper and cocoa sound really good together(not sure why) but unfortunately the cocoa is just too subtle. i’m thinking about adding a block of hersheys to this stuff. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 17, 2006 Very frothy/mountainous head. Deep brownish rust color.
Aroma is yeasty belgian spice, light flowery hop. Bright and slight sour lemon. Light cocoa powder under the covers. Slight dusty funk.
Flavor is very blended with very slightly soured yeast, some spice, hints of pepper, hints of chocolate.
Nicely blended flavors cause it to not be too awkward and a good drink.
DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2006 Bottle shared by Blake. Cloudy brown body. Lemon flesh, pepper skin, raisin, and dark plum in the appealing aroma. Good fruitiness contrasted with citric acidity. The flavor has the same lemon acidity (touch of metal w/ it) but the accompanying flavors aren’t much to talk about - a muddled chocolate extract and toasty caramel malt base. The finish brings out some stemmy hops but it sitll focuses on the lemon business. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2006 Thanks to CaptainCougar for this. We let this beer open itself because the cork started crawling out of the bottle once I uncapped it. That was part of the fun. The beer pours to a very hazy firey orange body. A huge foamy white head and excellent lacing. The aroma is funky barnyard with dust and interesting yeasts. Light chocolate. The flavor is dry cocoa powdered chocolate, light black pepper, extremely small dose of red pepper. Interesting yeasts. Some sort of fruit... perhaps pineapple. The palate has some dry components, no heat from the peppers, but there is some heat from the alcohol. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2006 very hazy brownish muddy pour w/ a big frothy head
Aroma of light belgian yeasts, some candied sugars a bit of funkiness and some black pepper aroma.
Palate is pretty avg w/ a tart finish
Flavor is a lightly sourness then a touch of tart chocolate w/ a mildly spiced peppered finish. Ok. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Aug 4, 2006 Updated: Aug 5, 2006My thanks to JoeBrew at Cellars St. Paul for this beer. A light orange beer; thin white head. Aroma has some barnyard and weird yeast scent. Flavor has very light chocolate and light pepper as well. The pepper has no bite, which surprised me. Fairly spicy overall; but not really a chocolate beer. Significant sediment; very large pieces. Very good. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 3, 2006 Interesting spicy peppery cream aroma. hazy gold orange with fine beige head. cocoa pepper saison coriander, not all so overwhelming, not much chocolate, dissapointing as we bought this based on the name and her love of chocolate. More like a normal saison with just a hint of chilis and cocoa - slightly unusual but not really a big beer. Easily overwhelmed by tasty mussels, complements them well, but, too expensive as an import to be worth it.
